Chapter 97 What a Great Lengths to Make Me Miscarry
They were nothing but a couple of scoundrels–one cheated, and the other happily played the role of a mistress. What kind of moral standards or qualities could they possibly have?
David shook off Elizabeth’s grasp, pulling his pants leg back. “What good is begging me? You’re the one who bound Caroline.”
The moment Elizabeth heard that, she immediately understood. She turned to Caroline. “Caroline, I’m sorry. Please forgive me. How about… how about you tie me up instead? I’ll accept it. I’m willing. Or you can hit me, take out your frustration on me!”
As she spoke, she grabbed Caroline’s hand and tried to slap herself with it.
Caroline forcefully pulled her hand away. “Don’t touch me. Hit you? I’d rather not dirty my hands!”
At that moment, Caroline could see that David had indeed softened. He was signaling Elizabeth to beg Caroline.
I knew it. I had already guessed this outcome, hadn’t I?
David’s heart had long been swayed–completely leaning toward Elizabeth. Caroline had always understood this fact.
If she hadn’t demanded a promise from David to severely punish anyone who kidnapped her, this whole thing might have been swept under the rug with Elizabeth crying a few tears.
Her heart felt cold.
Caroline instinctively rubbed her arms, but it wasn’t the cold of her body. Her heart was cold, and no amount of warmth could bring it back to life.
In the living room, the three of them stood in a tense stalemate.
Elizabeth was still crying.
“Go home,” David said after a long silence, his face cold. “You’ll stay in your room and think about what you’ve done.”
“Mr. Ellison…”
David didn’t even glance at her, striding upstairs with a finality that left no room for negotiation.
Troublesome.
The moment he left, Elizabeth quickly wiped away her tears and sprang tò her feet, agile and determined.
“Caroline, you’re lucky this time. Not only did you escape, but you even found evidence to force my hand!” Elizabeth pointed at her. “Just wait, I won’t let you off the hook!”
Caroline sneered when she saw the true face of Elizabeth’s viciousness.
Elizabeth gritted her teeth. “What are you laughing at? A woman carrying a bastard child like you can’t even protect yourself, let’s see how you’re going to protect that bastard!”

“You really know I’m pregnant, huh? It was after the hospital incident that you figured it out, wasn’t it?”
“Yes!”
Caroline stared at her. “Ever since then, collagen peptides, breakfast tea, the kidnapping… You’ve been going to great lengths to make me miscarry. Why? What’s your problem with my child? Does it get in your way?”
Elizabeth’s eyes darted around, unable to answer immediately.
Because she could never tell Caroline the truth. Because you’re carrying Mr. Ellison’s child!
Seeing her silence, Caroline guessed, “I think you’re afraid the truth will come out about how you sold my virginity that night. Or maybe you know who that rich man was, and he didn’t want the child, so you were sent to make me get rid of it?”
Elizabeth neither admitted nor denied it. Instead, she said, “I don’t get you, Caroline. Why are you protecting a bastard child so fiercely? If I were you, I’d just get rid of it, and then I’d be free. You’re carrying a burden every day. Aren’t you tired of it?”
“My child, I’ll keep it if I want to. I don’t need you telling me what to do!”
These people had no idea what it was like for Caroline, raised as an orphan, longing for familial
connection.
She desperately needed someone in this world who shared her blood. Especially since she was carrying twins. What a rare occurrence! How could I bear to end the lives of two tiny, living beings?
Elizabeth snorted. “But don’t forget, once Mr. Ellison finds out you’re pregnant, you’ll be finished for good!”
