David hated being threatened. “Caroline, you should die!”

“Then why don’t you…” Caroline coughed. “Just… Just kill me now…”

Caroline was nearly suffocating, but her hands were still gently placed on her belly, lightly caressing it.

David’s hand tightened further.
Just then, a hurried voice broke the silence. “Caroline!”
The voice was especially clear in the quiet of the hospital at this hour.
It was Nash! Caroline tried to open her eyes to look, but she had no strength left in her body.
Nash quickly ran over, seeing this scene, filled with both sorrow and anger. His face flushed red. “Mr. Ellison, what are you doing! Let go!”
David glanced at him. Perfect, just in time. The adulterous couple, right where I needed them, easy to handle!
David suddenly released his grip, pulling his hand back without warning.
Caroline felt a rush of cold air fill her lungs. Her throat burned with dryness, and she stumbled back a few steps, hunched over, coughing uncontrollably. She had no strength left in her and collapsed against the wall, sitting on the floor, clutching her chest as she gasped for air, gradually adjusting to the oxygen–rich environment.
She touched her face, only to find it covered in tears. She had almost… died at David’s hands. But why is it Nash who saved me? He is the last person who should have been there!
“Caroline, are you okay?” Nash crouched beside her, worried, constantly patting her back. “Do you need water?”
His eyes were filled with urgency.
“What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” Caroline turned her head to look at him, her eyes still red, her voice hoarse. “Why did you come?”
There was a hint of reproach in her tone.
To David’s ears, it sounded like something else.
