Caroline shook her head continuously. “No… no, I never thought of that…”
How could David still believe me?
“Your intentions were clear, Caroline, but you miscalculated. So, you started hiding the pregnancy… you started… deceiving me.”

For the past days, Caroline had been constantly on edge, fearing the moment her pregnancy would be discovered. Now that the truth was out, she almost felt a sense of relief.
She would have to face it eventually, so it might as well be now.
David suddenly smiled, a softness on his face, but it was the gentlest of knives. “Did you think my words were just blowing in the wind? Choose how you want to abort the child. Tell me.”
“No, I don’t want to choose…”
“Do you want to keep the child that badly?”
Caroline nodded fiercely.
This was her only and last hope. She wanted her child, no matter what.
