Caroline pressed a hand against his chest, “Home? What home do I have? The Brooks family was never my home, and neither is the Ellison residence.”
“I say it’s your home, so you will return.”
She bit her lip hard, tilting her head up to glare at David. “I wish I could kill you.”
“Then do it when you have the ability.”
At that moment, the image of the dagger hidden beneath her pillow flashed in her mind again.
That knife felt like a curse, an obsession that had rooted itself deep inside my heart. I fearthat one day, when Ican’t longer take it, I will drive that blade straight into David heart! And if I did, he would have only himself to blame!
Taking a deep breath, she fought to steady the trembling in her body. “I can’t leave yet, I have something to ask Nash.”
She pushed David aside and moved to step down from the bed. But her legs gave out instantly, and she nearly collapsed. She barely managed to catch herself on the edge of the bed before forcing herself to stand again.
For a split second, David instinctively reached out to steady her. But the moment she regained her footing, he retracted his hand.
This woman was as stubborn as ever., she didn’t need my pity!
Step by step, she walked forward slow, unsteady, but determined. She finally stopped in front of Nash.
“You said… the child isn’t yours. That you never touched me?”

“That’s right,” Nash replied, his eyes filled with both sorrow and helplessness. “Caroline, this was all a misunderstanding.”
Caroline body swayed, as if she were about to collapse again. Nash instinctively moved to support her, but before he could, David’s sharp gaze cut through the air, and Julia immediately grabbed Nash’s arm, holding him back…

Caroline stared in disbelief. “But you said it yourself, you bought me from the Brooks family. You admitted
it!”
