Chapter 10

Alice cherished the feeling of battling alongside her brothers, free from outside interference. She’d even neglected her studies for it. But when they won a crucial round and the championship was within reach, her brothers called a timeout. She was swapped out for Chloe, who ultimately helped them win the championship. Her brothers stood on the podium, basking in glory, with Chloe holding the trophy, smiling blissfully among them.
Watching the game on TV felt like a dagger to Alice’s heart, leaving a wound that couldn’t heal. “Why are you crying? This isn’t a soap opera, is it really that moving?” Jack commented drily. Alice snapped back to reality, wiped her tears. She had lost control of her emotions while reminiscing about her past.
A piece of paper appeared before her, held by long, elegant fingers.
She took the paper, feeling a bit shy as she asked, “Do you play this game?” “Little girl, your priority is studying, not gaming.” Jack lounged in his chair, casually leaning back, not even looking at her, focused on the match.
Alice looked at the screen.“Landing Team will lose.” Luke’s team.
Jack smirked.“You have good judgment.”
After the match, Landing Team lost without a doubt. Alice saw her brother Luke’s face turn dark, even smashing his keyboard in frustration. His temper had always been explosive. Seeing him lose brought her a strange sense of satisfaction.
When Luke returned, he would definitely reorganize the team, and this time, she wouldn’t figh for the Welch family. She would fight for herself, become a professional player, earn money for college, and support herself.
She was done with having her living expenses cut off as a threat to keep her obedient, or being forced to abandon a prestigious school for Chloe. She needed financial independence to break free from the Welch family’s control.
Professional game players weren’t highly regarded in the industry now, but with the rise of streaming next year, they could earn money through live broadcasts.
With her past gaming experience, this was the quickest and least labor–intensive way to make money. Alice made a silent vow.
After the live stream, Jack glanced back at her, moving closer to remove the IV needle.
He took a cotton swab and pressed it against her hand.
“Your medicine’s on the table. You can leave now.”
“Thank you!” Alice left the infirmary with the medicine..
As soon as she stepped out, a young man sauntered in, casually saying, “Jack, it’s rare to see you play the hero, but this girl has a bad reputation at school. She’s been getting roasted on the campus forum. Don’t let her fool you.”
Jack Wilson leaned back, his usual aloofness replaced with a languid ease.“Why are you still here?” “I’m just curious. Why are you a doctor at this high school? You even skipped little John’s match. He was distracted and almost attacked by that kid from the Welch family. Tell me why, and I’ll
leave.”

Jack removed his mask and rolled up his sleeve, revealing the ugly scar.
Andrew Yates’s expression darkened.“After all these years, you still haven’t let it go? That car accident wasn’t your fault! Wait, this girl…could she be…”
“Shut up!”
་་
Jack closed his eyes to rest, ignoring the person beside him.
