At the main seat, David held his wine glass, his eyes lowered. He looked unhappy, his mood unreadable.
To get David to attend was something many desired but few could achieve, let alone get him to drink.
Though David had drunk, his mind was still elsewhere.
No one could guess what he was thinking, so they just carefully served him.
After a few rounds of drinks, David showed signs of drunkenness.
The soup next to him had gone cold, but he hadn’t touched it yet. He only glanced at it.
Someone immediately spoke up, “I’ll refill your bowl.”
Soon, a fresh bowl of hot soup was placed in front of him. David didn’t refuse and took a few sips with the
spoon.
It tasted good. He had been drinking all night, barely eating, and his stomach felt empty.
He finished half the bowl of soup.
Looking at the time, it was already past ten. David stood up.
It was time to go home. He wondered if Caroline had returned yet.
David had been thinking about Caroline all night.
So this is what they call love? Even without seeing her, the longing and concern are so strong, as if we haven’t seen each other in ages.
David finally understood the feeling.
He once thought he could control Caroline, but now he realized that, without knowing it, she had already taken control of him.
“Mr. Ellison, please take care.”
The crowd again gathered around David, escorting him out of the private room.
But David’s steps were unsteady. After two steps, he felt weak, swaying.
His body felt extremely hot, burning, his lower abdomen felt like it was on fire.
The more intense the fire burned, the more he thought of Caroline, to the point where his throat felt parched.
But he couldn’t control himself.
His thoughts were consumed with images of pushing Caroline down, loving her recklessly.

Once outside the private room, the fresh air did little to wake him. His vision was blurry, everything seemed doubled,
Suddenly, a soft body pressed against him. “Mr. Ellison, you’re here. What a coincidence”
A woman’s fragrance wafted into his nostrils.

“Have you drunk too much, Mr. Ellison? How about resting at the hotel next door?” she said, “Look at you, you can’t even stand properly.”
David furrowed his brows and turned his head to look at the woman beside him.
He tried to focus his eyes, barely making out her face. “Elizabeth?”
“Yes, it’s me.” Elizabeth nodded. “I’m dining here tonight as well, Mr. Ellison.”
She smiled at the others nearby. “I’ll take care of Mr. Ellison. No need for anyone else to see him off. I’ve got him covered.”
David wanted to say something, but in an instant, his head grew heavier. Unable to control himself, he leaned against Elizabeth.
His forehead rested against her shoulder.
Seeing this, the others understood immediately.
With a beautiful woman at his side, there was no need for them.
And so, David fell into Elizabeth’s hands.
By the time David lifted his head, he had already left the restaurant and entered the hotel lobby.
At this point, he could no longer stand on his own, only able to lean on Elizabeth. His body was burning, and his throat felt dry as if it were on fire.
“Mr. Ellison, be careful. Slow down… watch your step. We’re almost there.”
His mind was a blur, dizzy and unable to focus, let alone think.
