“I just came to keep you company.”

Jack walked into the room with his hands in his pockets, but Andrew followed him:“So heartless? I’m not going anywhere.”
Jack walked inside, carrying the bag, but Andrew followed him into the elevator. He peeked into the bag.“Brown sugar water? Is the little lady on her period?”
Jack replied simply, “Yes.”
“If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it. Jack actually bought feminine products and brown sugar water–how considerate!”
Jack had never been this gentle or considerate with girls. It was always been girls orbiting around Jack.

Andrew waved. “Hi, kiddo, I’m Jack’s best friend.”
“Oh, it’s you.” Alice remembered that Jack’s friend had offered her his apartment. Even the restaurant incident where Jack kicked out her brother and Chloe, it had been because of him.
“Did Jack mention me? Did he say anything bad?”
“Nope, I’m just crashing in your room and wanted to thank you in person.” Andrew. grinned. “Don’t worry. I’ve got plenty of apartments. I’m not here often.” Jack emerged from the kitchen, carrying a cup of brown sugar water, handing it to Alice.
Alice was surprised. Jack was actually very thoughtful.
She held the warm cup. “Thank you.”
Jack said calmly, “Finish it and get some rest.”
Alice nodded, slowly sipping the drink, feeling much better. It had been years since someone had shown her such care. She stole a glance at Jack. But he was probably just feeling sorry for her, right? After all, she had shamelessly lingered in the infirmary to do her homework.

She packed her bag and stepped outside, just in time to hear a door opening next door. Andrew waved. “Morning, Alice! It’s pouring out there; it’s going to be hard to catch a cab. We’ll take you. to school.”
Jack stood beside him, glancing at her.“Let’s go.”
Alice didn’t object, her mood inexplicably brightened.
They went to the garage. Alice saw the black luxury car and asked Andrew, “Is that yours?” Jack had driven it yesterday. She’d looked it up; it cost millions.
Andrew coughed. “Yeah, of course it’s mine. Look at the lines! So sleek!” A free ride was a free ride.
Jack sat in the passenger seat, coldly saying, “Drive!”
“Alright!” Andrew was quick to comply; after all, he had his eye on this car before Jack snatched it.

They stopped at the school entrance, where it was crowded with people and cars.. Jack was the first to get out, holding a large black umbrella, standing outside the back door. Alice froze for a moment, then opened the door and stepped out..
The rain was so heavy that it blurred everything around her.
But she didn’t get a single drop on her.
His long hand held the umbrella, revealing a bit of his wrist.

Jack’s expression didn’t change. He gave Alice the umbrella. When she took the handle, she could still feel his warmth lingering.
