Elizabeth had no choice, Gritting her teeth, she reluctantly turned and left the room, glancing back every
few steps.
She lingered at the door, her eyes filled with longing as she clutched the doorknob. “Mr. Ellison…”
David didn’t spare her a glance, his fingers brushing over his wound. Who drugged me?
He had only eaten and drunk during the dinner. Elizabeth had shown up afterward.
She wouldn’t have the nerve–or the skill–to drug him without him noticing.
Once he found out who did it, there would be consequences. Severe ones. With his uninjured hand, David grabbed his phone and opened his contacts.
The moment he saw Caroline’s name, the desire he had barely suppressed with the pain of his wound flared up again–hot, uncontrollable.
It was like a fire rekindled, threatening to consume him
Caroline didn’t need to do anything. She didn’t need drugs. The mere sight of her was enough to make him lose control.
No wound, no amount of blood loss, could suppress his hunger for her.
Even just seeing her name was enough. What if… he saw her in person?

Her voice was laced with confusion. Why is he calling me in the middle of the night?
Before he could speak, Caroline continued on her own “Don’t rush me. I haven’t gone anywhere. I stayed late at work. I was just about to pack up and leave the lab. What do you want now?”
“Come to me.
Tm heading back to the Ellison residence,” Caroline said. “Where else would I go?”
David’s voice was low. I’m at a hotel.”

Is he asking me to drink with some big shot again? No, hotels are for sleeping. Then… then does he mean, sleep with him? That is exactly the kind of thing David would pull!

He sat down on the couch, then pointed to the side. “There’s a first aid kit in the drawer.
Caroline rushed to grab it, then sat beside him and started treating his wound.
