She had already noticed the vase nearby, just within reach.
All she had to do was smash it, grab a shard, and slash her wrist…
If David could do it, so could she.
“Caroline, do you really hate the idea of being mine that much?” His hand hovered near her throat–just the slightest pressure, and he could choke her. “Do you despise the thought of having my children that
much?”
“There are plenty of women who’d want that. Why force me?”
“Because you’re my wife!”
David wanted to tighten his grip–wanted to squeeze the life out of her.
Caroline had become his weakness, the one person who could shake his emotions.
If she were dead, he wouldn’t have to care about her anymore.
But in the very next second, the thought vanished. Because he couldn’t bear it.
He couldn’t bear to see her die.
He couldn’t bear to see her hurt.
“I know what you’re planning, David murmured, his grip slightly tightening. “Smash the vase, grab a shard, cut yourself”
His voice darkened. “You’ve learned my tricks well.”
Caroline met his gaze. “You taught me.”

After spending so much time with David, she had picked up more than a few things.

Caroline bit down on her lip. “I still wouldn’t want it.”
His hand suddenly tightened.
Air rushed from her lungs, and a wave of suffocation swept through her body. Her face scrunched in pain..
But the sensation only lasted a second.
Then, suddenly, the weight lifted.
Caroline’s eyes flew open. David had let go.
He had pushed himself off her and was now standing by the couch, his back turned.
He let her go?
She had braced herself for a long struggle, thinking shed teeter on the edge of death, barely clinging to
life.
She never expected him to release her so quickly.
Slowly, Caroline sat up–only to catch a flash of red in Her vision.
Her eyes widened. “David, your wound is bleeding again!”
The white bandages were soaked in crimson, the stain growing rapidly.
She had clearly stopped the bleeding earlier, but now the wound had reopened. It had to be because of his reckless movements.
Serves him right, she thought
If he hadn’t grabbed her, hadn’t tried to choke her, hadn’t refused to rest–then maybe he wouldn’t be bleeding all over again.
David glanced down at the blood, completely indifferet. Without a word, he turned and strode toward the bathroom.
Just before he stepped inside, he said, “Where’s my ice?”
Caroline froze for a moment before jolting into action, scrambling off the couch and diving for the bedside phone.
She called the front desk. “Send ice. As much as you can!”
