Chapter 304 Mr Ellison Brought a Date!
“You’ve always been gorgeous. Come on, Caroline, back in college, you were the prettiest girl in our department! You were only two votes away from winning the whole school’s title! Can you have a little more confidence?”
That whole prettiest girl in our department‘ thing was just a silly game,” Caroline replied dismissively.
Anna quickly countered. “Hey, people voted fair and square. The public knows what they’re doing. If your weren’t stunning, do you really think Nash would have–uh…”
She cut herself off mid–sentence, realizing she had let something slip.
Her eyes darted toward Caroline’s face, guilt creeping in.
Oh no, oh no–why couldn’t she just keep her mouth shut?
Back in college, Caroline had earned the title of the “pure and refreshing beauty” of the chemistry department, effortlessly securing her place as its most admired student. Naturally, she had caught Nash’s
attention.
But that was all in the past.
Caroline didn’t seem to care. She simply said, “There’s a dessert table over there. Let’s go–I’m starving.”
Maybe it was the pregnancy. Feeding three mouths made her hungry all the time.
She had barely taken two steps when someone suddenly exclaimed, “Mr. Ellison is here!”
Instantly, the entire room fell silent. All eyes turned toward the entrance.
David?
But this banquet hadn’t even invited him. Caroline had made sure to ask Boris about it.
David was always busy, constantly occupied with work. Besides, this was just a celebration for a subsidiary brand under the Ellison Group–there was no reason for him to attend.
What is going on? Caroline wanted to ignore it and keep walking toward the dessert table.
But when everyone else stood frozen in place, if she was the only one moving, she’d stand out too much.
Left with no choice, she stopped as well, turning her gaze to the entrance like everyone else.
David stepped in, dressed in a silver–gray suit that accentuated his tall, refined frame. His entire presence radiated wealth and power. His tie was perfectly knotted, without a single crease in sight.
He was, as always, the center of attention. Caroline suddenly became aware of just how strikingly handsome
David was
Before, he had been in her life every single day, haunting her like a relentless demon. She had been too busy avoiding him to ever stop and appreciate his flawless face.
But now, after nearly a month without seeing him, I have to admit, at first glance, David is incredibly good–looking Deep–set eyes, chiseled features, sharp contours, every movement carried an undeniable air of dominance. So distance.

Caroline chuckled to herself.
She was actually taking the time to admire David’s face now.
But then..
There was a woman beside him.

“Elizabeth? Why is she here?” Anna gasped. “She’s standing right next to Mr. Ellison…. and holding his arm? Oh my god, don’t tell me she’s his date for the night! Caroline, this
Caroline answered calmly, “Doesn’t matter. I don’t care.”
If anything, she wished David and Elizabeth would spend more time together. That way, she’d finally be left in peace.
Still, deep down, a faint bitterness spread through her chest–an uncomfortable sting of something she refused to name.
She forced herself to ignore it. David’s arrival shifted the atmosphere, making the event feel much more formal. The carefree laughter from before quieted, replaced with a more reserved energy.
After a brief moment of silence, the lively chatter resumed, though now tinged with caution.
Caroline let out a small sigh of relief.
She turned back toward the dessert table.
Food first. Everything else could wait.
David wasn’t her responsibility. And he certainly wouldn’t come looking for her. This arrangement worked just fine.
