aroline’s face wasn’t the only thing drenched in red wine. Her collar, shoulders, and dress were all stained with the deep crimson hue.
She bit her lip lightly, keeping her eyes shut until the cold trickle from above finally stopped. Only then did she slowly open them.
Just as she did, David turned away, tossing the empty wine glass to the side with effortless case.
Crash!
The glass shattered on the floor, breaking into countless shards.
Elizabeth’s phone was still pointed at Caroline, recording every second of her humiliation.
“Got enough footage?” Caroline asked, meeting the camera lens directly.
Elizabeth finally put away her phone and spoke with false concern. “Caroline, Mr. Ellison just wanted you to back down a little, but you’re too stubborn. Look, now you’ve suffered for it. You tried to record evidence of me and Mr. Ellison together, talking about splitting his assets. Of course, he got angry. You almost made me fall? That was nothing. The real reason he humiliated you like this was because you provoked him. Learn from this, okay? Don’t make the same mistake next time.”
Caroline let out a cold laugh. “Thanks for the advice. Now, get
lost.”
Elizabeth chuckled as well. “Caroline, how do you plan to show your face at the office after this?”
She covered her mouth as she laughed, then lifted the hem of her dress and twirled gracefully like a -butterfly before returning to David’s side.
David was wiping his hands, his gaze lowered, exuding his usual elegance and indifference. He remained composed, aloof, untouched.
Only Caroline was left in absolute disgrace.
Her dress was soaked, stained red. Her hair, sticky and disheveled, clung to her cheeks.
She looked utterly pathetic.
The entire banquet hall remained eerily silent. No one knew what Caroline had done to offend David so badly that he would go this far.
Even Boris hadn’t been able to protect her.
Caroline took a deep breath and didn’t bother wiping herself clean. Instead, she turned to Boris. “Mr. Boris, I’m sorry, but I won’t be able to participate in the rest of the celebration. I need to go home and clean up.”
“Alright, I’ll have a driver take you,” Boris responded immediately.
“No need, I’ll get a cab…”
Before she could finish, David’s voice cut through the air.
“Who said you could leave?”

He was being utterly unreasonable.

Caroline’s nails dug into her palm. He wanted her to stay like this, to let everyone see her in this state, to strip her of every last shred of dignity.
Humiliated, yet still forced to smile and endure it.
David glanced at his watch. “The most important part is coming up soon, the champagne toast. Caroline, you played a major role in this success. How could you possibly miss it?”
He dragged out his words deliberately.
“So, his lips curled into a smirk, “you stay.”
Caroline blinked, and the remaining wine clinging to her lashes stung her eyes.
She rubbed at them harshly before glaring at David. “David, don’t push me too far!”
Not allowing me to leave? What more does he want?
She was done.
The wine had been poured, the video recorded, she had played along enough.
But just as she was about to take a step forward, David spoke casually.
“Caroz‘ did exceptionally well this time, exceeding all expectations. That means your commission won’t be
small either.”
The word “commission” struck Caroline like a sharp hook, reeling her back in place.
She couldn’t afford to walk away from that money.
David was blackmailing her and she knew it.
