Caroline seized the opportunity, slamming her elbow into David’s side before shoving him away with all her strength. She ducked under his arm and bolted out of the elevator.
She didn’t dare look back, sprinting as fast as she could terrified that if she hesitated for even a second, David would drag her right back inside.
She ran like her life depended on it, not stopping until there was nothing but silence behind her.
That was close.
One second later, and the entire company would have seen her making out with David in the elevator.
Thank God, I have been quick–witted enough to keep my face hidden.
Otherwise, she’d be the talk of the office in no time.
Last night, she was humiliated by David. This morning she was forcefully kissed by him.
Caroline shook her head. Every single day… what the heck is my life turning into?
She straightened her clothes, fixed her hair, and checked her reflection in the mirror multiple times. Once she was sure there was nothing out of place, she returned to the R&D department.
Keeping her expression neutral, she sat back down at her workstation.
“Caroline, you’re back?” Anna glanced over. “Did you get everything sorted out?”
“Uh… yeah.”
But Anna leaned in, lowering her voice as she scanned their surroundings. “So, everyone’s gossiping… Apparently, five minutes ago, Mr. Ellison was caught making out with a woman in the elevator. That woman… wasn’t you, was it?”
Caroline’s heart nearly stopped. The news spread that fast?

anxious.

Later, when she went to the break room, she ran into Andrew.
His gaze was different.
It was clear—he knew she was the woman in the elevator.

Andrew had just suffered at David’s hands, so he didn’t dare provoke her. After lingering for barely ten seconds, he turned and hurried back to his office.
