Chapter 618
Barry immediately recognized the small red leather drum in Alex’s hand. It was the same one Alex had snatched from a baby store five years ago, during that desperate escape to see Ellie.
Back then, in the final moments, Alex had been shot by the police and dragged back to prison, leaving only this small drum behind, abandoned at the entrance of the Thompson residence.
When he woke up in prison later, thoughts of Ellie and their child drove him mad. To keep Alex alive, Nancy had no choice but to find someone to erase all memories of Ellie from Alex’s mind.
Even now, Nancy and Todd refused to acknowledge their own grandchildren for the sake of Alex.
“Mr. Warren, Mrs. Warren called and asked you to return to the manor,” Barry said, interrupting Alex’s thoughts as he stepped forward. It was just past ten in the morning when Alex returned to the Warren Manor.
“With such chaos happening in the company, where have you been?!” Nancy bellowed as soon as Alex entered the living room. Without showing any emotion, Alex walked into the living room and sat on the sofa opposite his parents, grabbing an orange from the table.
“Mom, I’ve got everything under control with the company. Don’t worry about it.” Alex didn’t want his parents to interfere with the business.
Todd added. “In business, you need to use some tactics, but you can’t go too far and destroy everyone.”
“Dad, being soft–hearted is the biggest mistake in business,” Alex argued. “You want to give those old fools a chance, but look how they treated our family! They’ve drained so much from the Warren Group over the past five years!” Alex said angrily.
“If I hadn’t acted when I did, there would be no Warren Group left in Jaslands. Out of respect for the past, I spared Minos, but Jerome and his son Hamilton will never get away from me!”
Alex stated his position firmly. “Since you handed the company over to me, don’t interfere anymore. I know what I’m doing!”
Todd exchanged a glance with Nancy. He sighed, “Your counterattack isn’t wrong, but you need to learn to exploit others‘ weaknesses and turn their strengths to your advantage. Making allies is always better than creating enemies.”
“Got it, Dad,” Alex said. He had his own ideas but didn’t want to argue with his parents.
“Mr. Todd Warren, Mrs. Warren, please don’t worry too much. Although Mr. Alex Warren has been busy cleaning out the corrupt executives at Warren Group, he hasn’t neglected bringing in fresh talent.
He’s also secured cutting–edge tech projects with eight countries. It won’t be long before Warren Group’s business empire surpasses what it was five years ago,” Barry explained, seeing the concern on Todd and Nancy’s faces.
Hearing Barry’s reassurance, Todd and Nancy finally let out a sigh of relief. Nancy looked at Alex’s sharp, tired features, the faint exhaustion in his eyes, and couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache. She sighed deeply, her worry for him evident.
After a brief silence, Nancy changed the subject. “Since you’re so confident about the company, why don’t you take some time off and meet someone I’ve arranged for you?”

Alex paused mid–bite of his orange. He glanced at Nancy, then Todd. He wondered, ‘In the last blind date, I’d almost made the girl faint. How could they still dare to set me up?‘
“Mom, they faint after just a few words.” Alex put down the orange and moved closer to Nancy.
Nancy waved her hand dismissively. “Don’t worry, Alex. This time, I promise she’s really good.” Alex frowned.
“The matchmaker says she’s a piano teacher who lost her husband in a car accident just a month after getting married. She’s

not only beautiful but also well–mannered. You two should meet; maybe you’ll hit it off, Nancy continued.
“A widow?” Alex asked skeptically.
“Don’t say it like that. She’s a widow, but she hasn’t had any children, Nancy replied.
