Chapter 23
**Mallory**
The knock on the door jerked my attention back from my thoughts.
I stood up shakily, my eyes moist and ushered Kelvin in whose face showed no sign of good news.
Regardless, I kept my eyes on his, holding on to the glimmer of hope that there was good news somewhere.
“I’m sorry Luna, we weren’t able to find an antidote. The leader of the edge dwellers seems to know nothing about the poison and is also infected with it.”
His words killed the last bit of hope I held onto giving way to despair.
“Did you torture him well Kelvin? Did you?
How could he have a poison on him and not be aware of it?
That’s bullshit, Kelvin!” I screamed, pulling desperately at my hair.
This was all my fault. I should have called Ivan immediately we saw the threat.
This won’t have happened. He’d have planned effectively for the intrusion and killed the edge dwellers without getting himself in danger.
Stupid Luna. I was worthless.
“You need to calm down, Luna. You’ve barely had anything to eat and you need to take care of your injuries. Yours might not be infected, but if neglected, it will get worse.” Kelvin replied, worry etched on his face.
He tried to hide it well, but his face always betrayed the worry he felt for his best friend and Alpha.
1 can’t Kelvin, I can’t,” I cried, snot dripping from my nostrils mixing with the tears that ran down my face.
This is all my fault,”
Ivan and I were with each other for our gains, but I still had a soft spot for him in my heart, and I didn’t think my stupidity would lead to his death.
I walked back to the room, supported by Kelvin at my side, and he took his leave, leaving me in the lonely comfort of my bedroom
1 buned my face in the pillow as I let out a loud howl that left me breathless.
Adaya walked in shortly, obviously sent by Kelvin to keep an eye on me.
bay news from the doctor?” I asked as she walked in.
“hot yet, Luna” She answered carrying a tray of soup, which she set on the bedside table and dragged towards me.
You should cal something to get your strength back “I nodded gently, took the spoon and scooped some of the warm broth ** my ruth, too tired to argue

“Yes?”
“This necklace is really pretty, I haven’t seen you wear it before.” She remarked, stretching a jade necklace to me.
It was my mother’s necklace which I got back from Willow during the alpha convention.
The sight of it filled me with overwhelming guilt of how I discarded a precious part of my mom away because of that backstabber.
I took the necklace in my palms, turning it over and looking at it again.
It was a really beautiful blue jade pendant with a seashell design engraved on it.
The straps had baby blue pearls and shining stones strung on them, giving them a shimmering and ethereal appearance.
1 put it down and continued with my soup, pushing back the tears that welled up in my eyes.
1 handed her the plates as I was done, instructing her not to disturb me again.
As she left my room, I picked up the necklace again, letting the tears that welled in my eyes flow freely.
“I’m sorry, Mom, I’m sorry for casting you out, for pushing you away.”
The pressure of Ivan’s unconsciousness, the weight of the poison with no antidote and my guilt eating at me broke me down, and I collapsed on the cold floor, curling my body as my tears dropped down my cheeks.
“I’m sorry, please help me….I lost daddy, I lost his estate, I lost you and now I’m close to losing another person that I care about.”
I remained motionless in that position for half an hour, the tears drying out and staining my face.
My eyes opened slowly, and I stood up abruptly, the necklace clutched firmly in my hands and walked up to the mirror.
On my neck was the amulet which Ivan instructed me to wear and not take off.
I fingered it lightly before removing it and replacing it with my mother’s necklace.
1 clasped the necklace firmly on my neck and looked up to see my reflection in the mirror.
“Abr
A scream escaped my lips as I noticed my usual pale green eyes were glowing brightly.
It had streaks of silver mixed in it, and the reflection stung my eyes, making me stumble back and hit the edge of the bed.
I recalled what had happened the first time i put on the necklace at the king’s palace.
“East.“I hissed as I noticed some of my stitches had torn open with my fall and’a dark patch was gradually covering the tuuristage.
The sensation stopped as soon as it began and I hurried to the mirror to look at my eyes.
The color had returned to usual, showing no sign of what happened a few seconds ago.
My hands strayed to the necklace and I eyed a suspiciously.

whining and fussing over me made me push the thought away.
I walked out of my room to the bathroom and took out some health supplies from the medicine cabinet.
I unwrapped the bandage careful not to tear out more stitches.
My finger grazed the wound lightly, making me take a quick intake of breath.

I worked swiftly, disinfecting the area with a solution and cotton and sewing it up, my teeth grinding the whole time.
I closed it up and paused to admire my work. It was a bit crooked but it would hold as long as I didn’t fall.
I moved my finger to stroke the wound mindlessly and drew back in shock as something caught my attention.
The spot my fingers stroked automatically closed up, leaving no sign of injury!
1 rubbed my eyes vigorously, thinking my mind was playing tricks, and carefully opened it.
The spot remained close. I ran my fingers around the rest of the stitches, and to my utmost surprise, they all closed up rapidly.
What was going on?
