Chapter 25
**Mallory**
My eyes roved over Ivan’s body, not seeming to believe he was awake.
Kelvin’s declaration wiped the traces of sleep that remained in my eyes, and I rushed, not bothering to change out of my pajamas to the clinic.
He was sitting up in bed, his back towards the door as he looked outside the window, the sunlight hitting his facial angles.
“Ivan?” I whispered, tears welling up in my eyes for the umpteenth time.
He turned gently towards me, his lips curving into a smile and he stretched his arms and beckoned on me.
I didn’t know which was faster, my legs or my arms. As I wrapped them both around him, my quiet sobbing had turned to a loud wailing now.
“Thank you, moon goddess,” I choked out between my sobs.
His arms tightened around me, and he gently stroked my hair while I had a good time bawling on his shoulder.
My tears gradually subsided, and I released him from the tight grasp, but his arms still hung loosely around my waist.
“Hey stranger,” he said, throwing me a cheeky grin which pulled my heartstrings.
“Hey! Welcome back,” I replied, shooting him a smile and drew back to look at him.
Pulling aside the shirt that he threw on, a gasp escaped me as I ran my hands against his bare skin.
The wound had healed up totally.
“But how?” I questioned, looking up at him
“You were poisoned by Vile Moss. There’s no antidote for it yet, exclaimed, not understanding the turn of events.
“Kelvin said the same. It’s all so confusing, but it worked out for the best, I guess.
My Lycan genes probably helped also,” he replied, taking my hand and leading me back to the bed.
I peered at him and noticed his eyes moving over my body and gradually became aware of my appearance.
My two–piece pajamas were a size smaller than I am, making them snug and fitted across my bosom, and the shorts showed a bit of my ass cheeks.
I felt my face heat up at his intense gaze and dragged the cover off the hospital bed fitting it tightly around my form.
We sat together in silence, his hand remained on my waist, not aware of how much my heart pounded.
“When did you dye your hair?” He spoke up.
—“Dye?”
“Yeah, he replied, his hands reaching into my hair and dragging out a single lock of silver hair.
“What? 1-1 never dyed my hair.” I answered, bringing the lock of hair closer to my sight and inspecting it.
A furrow crossed Ivan’s brow and he looked at the necklace around my neck.

“You took off the amulet?”
“Uhmm yeah. I know you told me not to, but this is my mom’s necklace, and I’d love to keep wearing it.”
He nodded and said nothing else as the doctor stepped in to examine him.
Her reaction to the wound was the same as mine.

“Alpha Ivan, this is unusual. The strange disappearance of the poison without an antidote and also your wound healed without a scar.
Infected wounds always leave a scar behind.” She declared.
Ivan nodded with an absent look on his face, obviously in deep thought.
I excused myself from them and hurried back to the Alpha Den to change into something more appropriate.
A knock sounded at the door just as I pulled on a gray sweatpants and a white tank top.
“Come in.”
Ivan walked already dressed in black tracksuit pants and a hoodie.
“Shouldn’t you remain at the hospital? You should rest.”
“I’m fine Mal. We need to talk.” He answered.
I folded my palms in my laps, my head downcast.
I knew exactly what he wanted to talk about.
“I’m sorry Ivan.”
“I’m not angry at you, Mal; I just want to know why you informed me the pack was threatened by the edge dwellers.” He replied in a cold voice.
“I–I just wanted to prove I was capable,”
“Capable?” He repeated.

“Yes, capable. All my life, people have always seen me as less. I’m there but invisible, useless, that’s what got me betrayed and killed.
And now I have a second chance to rewrite my mistakes. To step up but I failed miserably.
Because of my selfishness, you got poisoned and almost killed.”
I took a large gulp of water to calm my beating heart. Wow, that felt good to let out.
“You didn’t get me killed Mallory, and I’m glad I got here when I did. If not, it might be you laying in that hospital bed or
dead.”
worse,
He stood up from the edge of the bed and sat opposite me, leaning forward.
“You’re not useless. You’re not invisible.
I see you, Mallory.”
He kept his eyes on mine as he said those words, words that I have always wanted to hear, words that stirred something deep

and raging within me.
My lips parted slightly but no words came out, only the sound of my beating heart echoed in the room.

He continued, “Besides, from what the head warrior told me, the trap you put in place succeeded in keeping the pack members from harm.
Because of you, no pack member was hurt.
You did good, Mal.”
A relieved chuckle came from my lips, and I looked away, not able to withstand the intensity in his eyes anymore.
He stretched a finger and raised my head till my eyes were on his again.
This time I couldn’t look away. His eyes held mine with a force that drew me in.
Passions raged in his eyes and it constantly darted to my lips and back to my eyes.
My eyes strayed to his lips, making me gulp unconsciously
“May I kiss you,” he whispered, his voice coming out more sexy and mesmerizing than I had ever heard.
I found myself nodding; my eyes fluttered close as if under a spell, and his lips grazed mine.
It was light, like a firefly gliding on a calm river.
His hands grabbed my waist, pulling me closer as he deepened the kiss, his tongue exploring my mouth.
I was falling. Falling deep and hard into forbidden waters.
The moment his hands snaked up to rest behind my neck I was lost.
Knock knock!
He pulled back gradually, unwilling, as a loud knock came through, and I came back from the ecstasy I was about to enter.
Ivan tightened his hands into a fist, his eyes tightly closed to rein in his feelings which were close to erupting.
“Yes?” He growled.
Kelvin walked in with a warm smile on
his face, blissfully unaware his alpha was a tad close to tearing him apart for interrupting.
“Alpha Tommen of the Moonshade pack has arrived.”
