Chapter 31
CASSIE
I was nervous and I didn’t know what to do ever since I lied that was with Jeremy. Dana refused to speak to me saying that I had to tell the truth. Although I could feel her, she didn’t talk to me.
Just then, I found out that my mom and Alpha Damien were back in the house hence I went to meet my mother. I felt bad for hurting her husband and now, just like Dana said, she deserved him better than me. I had done nothing to protect him, all I did was put him in trouble. Getting to her room door, I sighed before knocking and my mom asked to come in before I did.
Pushing the door back, I stepped in only to find my mom brooding. She looked sad and unsettled. This was her mood whenever something bad was happening. I realized schooling here was a bad idea and staying away from the pack was better for all of us. The best way to protect Damien was to leave. Seeing the look of worry on her face made me know that she could never hurt him. Mom loved him for sure and she would protect him.
“Cassie,” Mom called and I turned to her and wrapped my hands around her. At that moment I wished that I could tell her everything and how Jereny was messing with me.
“Baby, are you okay?” Mom added.
“Nothing, Mom,” I answered gently.
“No, I am your mom and I can perceive when something is wrong with you. Tell me.” She caressed my palm and I sighed aware that she wouldn’t stop until I told her what was wrong with me.
“I am only bothered about stepfather and I am hoping he won’t be jailed. I don’t want anything bad happening to him.” Mom smiled gently and then moved her hand back and forth to my arm.
“You should know that Alpha Damien isn’t any kind of Alpha. He is powerful and the most popular Alpha in the Western region so this allegation wouldn’t send him to jail or ruin his reputation.”
“What do you mean, mom?” I asked.
“I mean Alpha Damien wouldn’t fold his hands and not find evidence to prove himself not guilty. Tomorrow, he will find the evil–doer. Hence smile baby but I am glad you are worried about your stepfather.” She cupped my face and I nodded gently, relief washing through me.
“Cassie, you really were not with Damien yesterday? I know he doesn’t lie, Alpha Damien doesn’t because of his stupid Alpha ego. I find it hard to believe that he lied to me yesterday about finding you.”
I tensed, hearing that Mom had a doubt. Still, I had to stand on my ground.
“Mom. I was really with Jeremy.”
“Are you sure or is there something you are hiding from me?” She asked and I tensed up again but I hid my tension from her knowing she was very smart. She could sense my feelings.
“Mom, I am not hiding anything. I just came here to check if you were okay, I need to go back to reading.” With this, I excused myself after kissing her on the cheek.
Stepping out, one of the maids came to me.
“You are searching for Jeremy right? Come let me take you to where he is,” she said and held my hand Did I look like I was searching for him?

She walked through the back and entered the bush. I heard growling and when I came to a clearing, I saw Damien’s wolf on top of Jeremy who had the most innocent look on his face. Damien’s wolf was growling wildly at him and then he took his paw to his face and it looked like he was going to smash his head. Jeremy was petite compared to Damien’s huge wolf.
Fear gripped me and my eyes went wide with terror. I had once heard that whenever bigger wolves felt threatened by smaller wolves they hurt them. Instantly I shouted Damien’s name Hoping it would help him get back to his senses. I was disappointed with Damien and his wolf. Even if Jeremy was in the wrong, he should never have tried to hurt him.
Jeremy said he loved me and this was why he protected me from the police, saying I was with him last night instead of with Damien. Finally, Damien’s wolf let Jeremy go without smashing his head to the ground.
I turned back, walking away from the scene’and I felt Jeremy coming after me.
“Babe, wait for me,” Jeremy called.
Just as Jeremy met up with me on the porch, and we both walked toward the door, my phone rang. I instantly made an excuse to pick up the call. The person on the other end introduced herself as a representative from the pack college. They said they were happy that I was transferring to the school.
“We have started with the process and we are glad to inform you that you can resume whenever you want.”
I was confused and didn’t pick up until the end of the call. How did Mom start this without asking me? Anger rolled through me and I walked back to the front porch but before I reached Jeremy, I saw him and the maid that had dragged me to where he was earlier talking.
“The plan is as successful as you wanted it right? I called her at the exact time that you had told me to.”
I pinched my brows wondering what plan they were speaking about. It better not be what I was thinking about. I walked up to them and instantly demanded an explanation. The maid was shaken when she heard me speak behind her and she moved to the side of Jeremy as if seeking protection.
“Start speaking or you will lose your job today!”
The maid trembled and she raised her hand and directed her middle finger to Jeremy accusingly.
“Leave!” I boomed, my eyes on Jeremy who didn’t look guilty. He had a neutral face like I hadn’t caught him just now.
did. Alpha you presence which “Yes, everything you saw was a game. I wanted you to reject Damien and choose me for his Damien’s wolf was only angry because I contended with him and dared him which you know every Alpha couldn’t control as they were born superior.”
My body trembled and I felt a tick in my belly. The urge to slap him for deceiving and playing with my feelings settled within me but I didn’t execute it. Instead, I walked away from him and headed to the kitchen where I let out my full annoyance. The look on Jeremy’s face added to my anger. He didn’t look guilty rather he relished in his bad behaviors.
I grabbed the knife and a cucumber and started to chop away, badly without control or rhythm. I let out my anger with it and I didn’t even notice when someone walked up to me.
“The cucumber will never come to this house in its next life if it ever lives,” Granny Sophia uttered next to me, and I almost chuckled at her joke but I was too angry to do so.
I dropped the knife next to the battered cucumber and greeted her before trying to exit the room. However, she held my hand and stopped me.
You don’t look good,” she said.
“I am fine, just a headache.” I lied.

“You don’t know how to lie and I am more than three decades older than you so you should know I know better. Tell me what is wrong. You cannot ruin my cucumber for nothing.” She dashed her teeth which I thought was too perfect for her age.
I sighed.
“Can I ask a question instead?” I asked and she nodded, her eyes oft and her gaze sweet.
“If you accuse someone wrongly, thinking they did something but later find out they didn’t, what do you do?” I asked.
She squinted her eyes and moaned a sigh before smiling softly. Then she held my palm and it felt like my grandmother was holding me. She didn’t hold any judgement which made me relax under her touch.
“You apologize, a sincere apology can go a long way,” she said softly and her voice made me feel like I was living on a farm with nothing to worry about.
“You really think that will work?” I asked and she nodded softly with a natural smile. A kind of smile that wasn’t forced or filtered.
I nodded with a smile, feeling a little relief. I didn’t know why I believed in her words.
“Thank you, grandma.” I smiled and hugged her gently before walking to exit the kitchen. I paused at the door entrance and looked at the cucumber I had assailed.
“Sorry about that,” I whispered and she chuckled waving me off before I left the kitchen completely.
