Chapter 33
CASSIE.
He seemed to be mad when he found out that I was transferring back to the pack in the living room. He raised his voice and looked pissed. Also, he didn’t give me a chance to speak to him last night, I think it would be nice if we could speak.
Getting inside his office, I met his Beta. I was happy that he was leaving already and after Damien’s question hit me.
“Why did you come here?” He asked, his voice was cold like the rst day he warned me and said nothing could ever happen between us.
“What do you want?” He asked me coldly again.
I wanted to apologize for accepting to transfer without letting him know but before I could make the sentence, he gave me a dismissive look and unconsciously picked up a pen and then placed it back between the file. After he returned his cold gaze
back to me.
“Listen.” He sighed as if he was stopping himself from ticking off
“You are my daughter and as your father accepting your choice is what every good father would do, just let me know everything you need to settle in. If that is why you came, don’t worry about it. You don’t even have to speak to me directly. your mom will let me know whatever you need.” He added which made me squint my eyes for a second. Why was he speaking to me like that? We had sex a few days ago, and now he sees me as a stepdaughter. My anger was in tandem with the sadness that engulfed me. All I did was stare at him as I didn’t even know what to say.
“Is there anything something else you need or like to add?” He asked.
“No.” The words left my mouth quickly. I was already hurt without even speaking. I didn’t need him to tell me to leave before I turned and walked out of the library.
“Did you see how Damien treated us even when we wanted to explain things to him? I didn’t know Jeremy had planned those things but he didn’t me a chance to even explain myself.” The thought of it and telling it to Dana made me sad.
Dana didn’t reply to me and this made me Cassie angrier. She was always supporting Damien over me. I was her human counterpart yet she took him over us each time.
“Fine. Keep supporting him!”
I made my way out of the house, to the back of the mansion for some silence. I didn’t need the energy that was in the house. I needed something that was more natural and didn’t hold resentment toward me.
I was lost in touch watching the birds chirp and the trees dance to the tune of the air. Suddenly, I felt someone tap me and when I looked next to me I saw Grandma Sophia.
“You, again.” She tapped me and when she saw my face, concern crossed her eyes.
“Are you okay?” She asked.
I hesitated as I didn’t want to speak about Damien. I couldn’t even use another form of illustration because she would catch on as a smart older woman.
“Since you don’t want to talk about it, there is no need to force yourself. Instead of thinking and being bothered about it, follow me to the kitchen because I have lots of work to do today she said.
I smiled and nodded as I needed a distraction for myself and cooking was a good way to start.
Chapter 38
“I bake for the pack guards on days like this. You can help me instead of wasting your time thinking. Also, let me tell you, don’t smash my cookies the way you did to that cucumber.” Sheave me a glare which made me chuckle. She looked very cute even with the bad look. I wondered how she looked when she was younger for her to look this good.
I walked after her with excitement as I had always loved cooking It was something that I always did with my father. One of the reasons we bonded better.
When we got to the kitchen I helped her to bring out the things needed to bake.
“Grandma, can I do the baking today? I have some recipes Lam really good at and I would like them to try.”
She nodded and helped me with the ingredients that I needed. Grandma only helped me pick up the things that I needed, she allowed me to do everything myself and trusted me with the measurements. Thirty minutes later, the cookies were ready, and Granny brought them out.
“You are sure this would be good?” She asked and I scratched the back of my head. I hadn’t baked in a long time hence I was a little skeptical about it.
She took one of them and bit into it while I watched her. She savored the taste and her eyes widened with interest.
“This recipe is so good: Where did you learn it from?” She asked
“Dad.” I answered with excitement. My father was very good at baking and he taught me all that I knew.
“Your daddy must be a great cook. Not just with cookies, right?” She asked and I nodded.
“Better than Mom,” I whispered and she burst into laughter which brought about mine.
“Who is making Grandma Sophia laugh so much?” Damien’s voice popped out and he walked into the kitchen. When he sighted me, his eyes fell and it looked like he was disappointed to see that it was me.
“Cassie,”
“Alpha.” I called back and held his gaze. His eyes bore into mine like he was going to swallow me up.
“Alpha,” Grandma called which made me peel my eyes away from him and he did the same. He looked at her and then the cookies we had baked on the table.
“Isn’t today cookies day? I have been waiting all week. I came to pick mine up.” His eyes were greedily devouring the cookies in the pan.
“Okay, let me help you pack that up.” Grandma turned to the storage room to find what to pack his portion in. I leaned against the counter, avoiding his gaze.
He moved to the pan and picked one of the cookie. I heard his teeth bite into the cookie breaking it into his mouth. He moaned deliciously which caught my attention and I turned to him. His eyes were closed as he crunched the flavor of the cookie. I couldn’t help but admire him. He was so sexy even as he ate.
“What the hell grandma, what flavor is this? It is bursting my brain.” He picked up another while Grandma walked out of the storage room with a small bowl which she was going to use to help him pack his portion of cookies.
“I didn’t bake this. Cassie did.”
His eyes went wide and veered to me so our gazes met again but he looked away this time. I saw that he was stunned. He must have thought that I didn’t know how to cook.
Grandma handed the bowl to him and once he received it, he turned to the door but stopped and turned to grandma.

Chapter 33
“I have a news that will make you happy.”
I raised my brows wondering what he wanted to speak about. Grandma quickly gave him her attention and her ears stretched as though it wasn’t the first time he was telling her this. The connection between the two of them was seamless. Perhaps it was because she raised him.
“What is it, Alpha?”
“It seems I am going to find my mother soon.” He smiled genuinely. The kind of affectionate smile I had never seen on him. He didn’t look like an Alpha at that moment, he looked like a kid who was excited.
“What?”
“Yes, but I need you to keep it a secret until I confirm it and annouce it.” He gave her a nod which she nodded to before he walked out.
I looked at Granny waiting for an explanation. I didn’t know anything about Damien’s mom hence I couldn’t put the pieces together.
“What about his mom, Granny?” I asked but she turned away, arranging the dishes we had used into the dishwasher.
“Ask your mom about that or your stepfather, please,” she responded harshly. Coupled with that, her movements were grim.
“Did I do something wrong? Shouldn’t I have asked?” I wondered because this was not the granny that was teasing me and speaking to me like I was her grand daughter.
“Are you deaf, Cassie? I said I don’t want to talk about it.”
Her words stunned me and it hurt my feelings more than I thought words could ever do.
“Oh…” The words were almost stagnant in my mouth. stopping me.
nodded and made to walk out of the kitchen when she held me,
“I shouldn’t have said that. I… I remembered something from the past and it wasn’t pleasant. That ruined my mood but I shouldn’t have used it against you.” She pulled me close and wrapped her hands around me before burying her head in my shoulder and I felt like she needed the hug more than I did.
I had the feeling that whatever was wrong with her had to do with the things Damien had said. I just couldn’t wrap my hands around it.
