Chapter 29
**Maya**
The back door was slightly ajar, just as I left it before sneaking out.
I pulled off my coat hurriedly, dusting off the rain droplets on it and stuck my umbrella behind the door.
A quick look at the sky gave me an idea of the time. It was close to dusk and even closer to dinner time when my presence would be required.
A distressing signal had sent me running, abandoning the necessary precautions I normally took and hurrying off to the drop point.
A bloody tooth was taped to the letter I found in the hollow of a tree.
A letter detailing the gruesome brutality my brother was going through in the Moonpeak pack.
The tooth was his, and if I didn’t deliver my task, more would follow.
“Maya,” a voice jolted me out of my thoughts.
“Yes,” I turned hastily in the direction of the voice, pushing my muddied boot behind the door.
“Luna Evie has sent for you. You have been missing since afternoon.” The maid answered.
“Ohh I should hurry to meet her then. A kid informed me that the garden was overgrown with weeds so I had to go tend it.” I replied, hastily slipping into my servant clothes.
“All right.” She nodded, sensing nothing wrong with my words and left me standing in the dimly lit room.
I wiped the sweat off my brow and hastily rolled my hair into a tight bun before hurrying to the Alpha Den.
A trolley of food was being wheeled in as I approached the dining area, and I hastily took over from the maid and entered
the room
The Alpha sat imposingly and the mere sight of him sent fear creeping down my spine.
The task given to me only had two outcomes. My success or my death.
I leaned towards my death given that the alpha was already so suspicious of me.
Good day. Alpha Iran. Luna Evie.” I bowed calmly before proceeding to unload the trolley and began to serve them. “Where have you been Maya Luna Evie questioned

“It’s already begun,” He replied to her, not taking his eyes off his plate.
She tensed up and dropped her fork, giving him a hard glare.
“You said you’d inform me before you began the process,” she replied, a hurt edge in her voice.
“Not now Mal- Evie,” he replied coldly
Mal? What was that about?/
I glanced at the guard in the corner but he didn’t seem to notice anything as his face remained stoic.
A sneer crossed my lips at his reaction and I shrugged it off, pushing it out of my mind and concentrating on how to carry out my task.
The dinner resumed in silence, with Luna Evie angrily stabbing the plate with her fork and picking at the food.
The noise seemed to upset Alpha Ivan as he kept grimacing and eyeing her which she ignored.
Not able to take it anymore, Alpha Ivan calmly put his fork down, his face hard.
“Maya,” he called out softly, but it sounded like a death sentence to me. Almost like the day he put the prison bracelet on
- me.
“Y–yes Alpha,” I replied shakily and stepped forward.
“Go to my office and bring the files to the table,” he instructed.
Luna Evie stopped stabbing her plate, and a victorious smile spread across her lips.
I hurried away, wiping my hands against my apron.
“Thank you, moon goddess,” I mused happily to myself.
Who knew an opportunity like this would open up so soon?
I prayed with all my might that Kelvin, his beta, wasn’t in the office.
I must have woken up on the right side of the bed as luck shone on me.
I stepped into the office and it was empty.
It was cold and dark and sent the same chill o felt in the presence of the alpha through me.
The files, 3 of them, were arranged neatly on the table.
The words Pixie Village Proposal were written across it in bold.
“Yes,” I squealed to myself and hastily flipped through my mind canning the details.
So engrossed in reading that I wasn’t aware when the door
opened.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” A loud voice thundered.
My face turned pale as the file fell from my hand back to the table and my breathing turned ragged.
I raised my eyes slowly and stared into the red angry eyes of Kelvin, the Alpha’s beta.

“Shit,” I murmured as my hands felt in my duffel bag, discovering I had left some files I needed to work on back at the office.
My bones felt so tired, I wanted nothing more than to take a warm bath, have a hot dinner and relax with a glass of wine.
I scoffed loudly and walked out of my bedroom, shutting the door gently behind me.
Approaching the office, I noticed it was slightly open which was very unusual for the Alpha.
He may be an asshole but he was meticulous.
I walked in, my footsteps silent and pushed open the door, and the sight of Luna’s maid, scanrting confidential documents, came to sight.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” I bellowed, my eyes turning bloodshot from rage.
Those files were highly confidential, and falling into the wrong hands could spell doom for our pack.
Her face turned deathly pale as if lacking blood and the file slipped wordlessly from her hands.
“I–I’m sorry,” she began, her heart rate increasing and beating faster than a drum.
“What are you doing here?” questioned, keeping my rage in check.

“The Alpha sent me to bring the files to him in the dinner room she replied, hastily assembling them back and scooting away from the table.
I frowned, confusion clouding my features and my eyes which I kept on her hardened. But not from her words.
From the word, my wolf whispered to me.
“Mate.”
