Chapter 102
Alice looked up at Jack. Her earlier words had been impulsive. Jack’s usually calm demeanor flickered; a ripple in the still waters. His throat tightened slightly. “Kid, don’t go around telling men you’re ‘responsible‘ for them. That’s something “men” say.”
Alice realized her words had been a bit too forward, hinting at something more. She blushed, lowering her eyes. “Don’t misunderstand. I didn’t mean anything by that. You’re my friend, and I can’t let you get dragged into this because of me.”
“Yeah, I understand,” Jack replied, his gaze drifting towards the hospital.“So, what’s your plan?” “I want to talk to Garrett personally.”
“Let’s go.”
Alice stared, surprised, then jogged to catch up.“No, you shouldn’t go. I’ll go alone.‘ If Jack went, he’d be grilled. She wouldn’t let that happen.
“Alice, wait for me!”
Luke Wind caught up, having been surprised she’d taken a cab and chased her all the way. Spotting Jack, his face hardened.“You actually came? You’ve got some guts.” He’d thought the nurse would chicken out.
Alice frowned.“Brother, I told you this has nothing to do with him. Why are you doing this?” “Alice, I’m doing this for your own good…”
“Enough! What do you
mean, for my own good? Did you even ask me? I don’t think it’s good at all,” she said, thoroughly fed up with their assumptions.
She entered the elevator, her face set. Jack followed, a touch of sympathy in his eyes. “It’s not that difficult, don’t get so worked up.”
“Dr. Jack, that’s easy for you to say. All the pressure’s on Alice. With your status, can you really take on the Garrett?” Luke Wind scoffed, dismissive of Jack’s apparently confident attitude. In his eyes, Jack was nothing compared to the Garrett.
Jack’s expression
expression remained calm.“No need to fight. It’s
one–sentence thing.”
“Big talk. Let’s see how you solve this with one sentence,” Luke Wind sneered, believing this was the perfect opportunity to show Alice that Jack was all talk.
Alice took a deep breath as they exited the elevator. She turned to Jack.“Wait for me outside.” seves softened.“I in with you.” Garrett knew him. Even if his identity was revealed, he couldn’t bear to see Alice so stressed.

“No,” she insisted, her voice firm.“Wait for me here.”
Luke Wind disagreed.“Alice, can you stop being so blinded by love?”
Ignoring him, Alice stormed towards the room. Chloe’s startled voice came from inside. “What? Garrett, you’re not going to pursue this?”
“That’s right. I was the one who started it at the bar. I was wrong. Besides, they compensated me, so let’s drop it,” Garrett said, his expression uneasy. Besides, isn’t Alice part of your family? Pressing charges won’t help anyone.”
Chloe was unconvinced. “But…” He hadn’t said that before! What happened after he spoke to that guy?
Garrett looked up. Chloe, l
doing this for your sake.” His cousin, Gator, had warned him not to
reveal too much to the Winds.
Chloe’s face fell. If it weren’t for Luke’s presence, she’d have urged Garrett to press charges. All she could do now was say, “Garrett, thank you for giving me this face–saving solution. Our family will be grateful.”
Luke breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Garrett didn’t pursue the matter. Alice found the whole thing unbelievable. Garrett was actually dropping it? Something felt wrong, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
worry, we’ll Luke Wind approached. “Thank you, Mr. Garrett. You’ve been through a lot. Don’t cover all the medical expenses, and Chloe will take care of you until you recover.” Garrett coughed. “Well, for Chloe’s sake, it’s best not to make a big deal out of this.” He figured this would smooth things over.
Though Chloe was unhappy, Garrett’s consideration made her feel valued. She turned to Alice.“Alice, even though this is settled, Garrett was badly hurt. Shouldn’t you apologize?” Luke nodded. “Yes, an apology is due. Alice, come here.”
Luke Wind frowned. “That nurse should apologize. Why should Alice apologize?“” Garrett quickly waved his hands. “No, no apology needed. Just formalities. No need for that.” He was still afraid of his cousin, Gator, and didn’t want to see him. Gator had intervened for the nurse; if he made a fuss, he’d be the one apologizing!

Not just Alice, but the other Winds were surprised the situation was resolved so easily. Something was fishy.
Chloe, slightly smug, said, “Thank you, Garrett, for being so magnanimous. I’m so touched. Brother, since Garrett isn’t pressing charges, let’s just drop it.”

Garrett hastily added, “I They left the room. Alice’s tension eased. Garrett was nothing like the rumors suggested; he was surprisingly forgiving.
Chloe, pointedly, said, “Alice, you need to have a serious talk with that nurse. Don’t be so impulsive; not everyone is as forgiving as Garrett.”

Alice let out a cold laugh. She looked at Luke.“Stop dreaming. I have nothing to do with you all. Stay out of
my life.”
Luke was about to explode, but Luke Wind stopped him.“Alice, let’s let this go. You did so well on your exams. The family wants to throw a big celebration for you. Anything you want, just ask, and your brother will make it happen.”
W beside herself with envy, clenched her fists. She wouldn’t let Alice get away with this.
Chloe,
What a phony valedictorian; it was definitely the principal colluding with Alice to cheat.

“Alice, your words are incredibly harsh.”
“I have even harsher words. Who are you? What right do you have to throw a celebration for me?”
Luke retorted, “I’m your brother!”
“Not anymore.”
