Chapter 5
That day was Valentine’s Day.
Dr. Allen invited me to dinner at a restaurant.
I felt that these days were too special, and I originally didn’t want to agree to him.
But then he made a pitiful plea, saying that I was his only friend here and he didn’t want to spend the holidays all alone.
In the end, I agreed to accompany him.
We were close by, and Lucas’s voice was loud. Since the speakerphone was off, I could hear him clearly.
Dr. Allen and I exchanged a glance and then his face darkened.
“Mr. Chapman, your wife has been dead for a long time.”
“I told you about it the day of her funeral.”
“If you don’t believe me, I can send you the burial site.”
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds, and then Lucas’s trembling voice
came through.
“It’s impossible! How could she be dead? You’re lying to me! You must be lying to me!”
Dr. Allen sneered, with a hint of mockery in his tone.
“Mr. Chapman, do you really think I would lie to you?”
“The cause of Violet’s death was postpartum hemorrhage. The hospital has complete records. If you don’t
believe me, you can check.”
“Mr. Chapman, don’t forget, that dose of oxytocin injection was given to her because you asked me to. I confirmed the risks with you repeatedly.”
Lucas still didn’t believe that I had died.
He even began posting desperate videos online, tearfully expressing his longing and regret for me.
In the videos, he appeared haggard and hollow–eyed.

At first, many netizens were moved by his “deep affection” and started sharing his videos. Some even took it upon themselves to organize searches for my whereabouts.
However, it didn’t last long.
Lucas became so obsessed with finding me that he neglected his company’s operations, which led to severe chaos within Chapman Corporation.
Not long after, Chapman Corporation released an announcement stating that his position as CEO had been replaced by Mason.
It didn’t end there.
Ferrara Media was the first to cut ties with Chapman Corp and aggressively pressured them.
I’m not sure how much of this was Gabriel’s doing. Given his former profit driven business style, he wouldn’t have made a move that would harm his own interests.
Soon, an anonymous insider revealed scandalous information online.
The revelations detailed how Lucas had been excessively kind to his sister–in–law, Vanessa, but had treated his own wife with cruelty and indifference.
These secrets from the wealthy family exploded like a bomb, instantly igniting the internet.
Netizens quickly turned against him, accusing Lucas of being hypocritical and heartless.
The public pressure caused Chapman Corporation’s stock price to plummet, and the Chapman family had
to rush into damage control.
From what I knew about my ex–fiancé’s personality, he should have been furious by now.
And since Lucas had lost his power, Vanessa wouldn’t help him anymore.
Sure enough, Chapman Corporation soon released a statement saying that Lucas had been expelled from
the family and his actions were not related to the Chapman family anymore.
I wasn’t paying much attention to these matters; Dr.Allen was the one telling me about them.
Two months later, on a sunny day, I was having a barbecue with Dr.Allen in the yard when he actually showed up at my door.
In a panic, I hid inside Dr.Allen’s house, my heart racing.
Through the thin door, I could hear Lucas’s conversation with Dr.Allen.

“Dr.Allen, where exactly did you hide her?” Lucas’s voice was low and cold, with mppressed anger
Dr.Allen’s voice remained calm, even with a hint of sarcasm:
“Mr. Chapman, I’ve already told you, Violet is dead. Why do you keep obsessing over the
“Besides, you must have already visited the South Cemetery, right?”
Lucas sneered, clearly not believing it.
“As long as I haven’t seen her body with my own eyes, I won’t believe it.”
After a pause, he looked at the grill.
“Are there guests here?”
My heart skipped a beat–just then, I accidentally knocked over the shelf next to me.
Lucas’s footsteps suddenly got closer, his voice with a trace of curiosity.
“Are there other women?”
Dr.Allen’s voice remained calm:
“What, Mr. Chapman? You lost your wife and became a lonely man, and now I can’t start a family?”
Lucas fell silent for a few seconds, seemingly judging the truth of Dr.Allen’s words.
Finally, he said coldly:
“Dr.Allen, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. As long as I haven’t found Violet, I’ll be here every day.”
I’knew that Lucas was starting to suspect this place.
After he left, I told Dr. Allen I was going back to my home country.
During this time, Gabriel gave many orders to damage Chapman Corp in order to bring them down.
I’m not sure if my departure made him redirect his anger toward Chapman Corp, or if he was doing this as a form of revenge for me.
Either way, I now owed Gabriel even more. I couldn’t hide like a turtle anymore, nor could I keep troubling Dr. Allen.
Due to a work transfer, Dr. Allen came back with me. As soon as the plane touched down, a torrential

rain began.
Dr. Allen went to the supermarket to buy an umbrella. Just then, I noticed a tall figure standing outside
the door.
The person’s gaze was so intense that I couldn’t ignore it.
It was Lucas!
When Lucas saw me, he froze.
The pouring rain drenched him, turning him into a soaked mess, but he didn’t react.
He trembled as he stepped toward me:
“Violet, you’re really alive.”
“I knew you weren’t dead. I knew the one in the cemetery wasn’t you…‘
Hearing him say this now, I just felt disgusted.
Every time he took a step toward me, I took a step back.
“Are you with Dr. Allen now?”
He asked.
I ignored him.
