Chapter 24
Daniella prepared a cup of glutinous rice, boiled it until it was soft, and then added about five pieces of Guilang’s Tableya, along with sugar and milk. She patiently stirred the mixture as she waited for the porridge to become exceedingly son and for the chocolate bars to properly dissolve and blend with the
rice.
“Is it not done yet?” Marcus inquired, finishing his second cup of coffee while the continued to stir the
porridge.
“If you can’t wait, then go ahead and eat!” Daniella snapped at Marcus, who had insisted on eating together but was clearly impatient for her breakfast to be ready.
“Your temper is nasty, Dani, but we have to talk… about our situation.” Marcus said, his tone serious and his expression solemn. He had decided to be honest with her that morning, believing that the sooner they
moved forward with the annulment, the better.
“If you’re previously married, then we won’t have a problem, Marcus. If you’re concerned about the cost of the annulment, I’ll take care of it,” she offered, volunteering to cover the expenses of their annulment
“I’m still in love with Veronica, and living with you would be a taboo,” Marcus confessed, revealing his feelings for his first wife.
Ah, so there was another woman involved. This was unexpected, even though he was undeniably handsome. “Who’s Veronica?” Daniella asked, genuinely surprised.
“My wife,” he answered.
Daniella placed the ladle on the counter and turned to face him. “You told me you’re not married, and now Veronica’s your wife?” She was furious that he had lied to her. However, part of her couldn’t help but feel relieved. “So, we don’t need an annulment since it was already null and void from the start. If you find a way out of here, you’re free to go, Marcus. I can just tell Paloma that an alien has abducted you,” she said, her tone laced with sarcasm.
“I was married. I mean, she’s dead. It’s a long story, but I still love her,” he explained to clear up
misunderstanding.
How loyal, Daniella thought. But then, some people were just that way. “I see,” she replied.

“I just told you so you wouldn’t assume I’d fall in love with you soon, you know what I mean,” Marcus explained, worried that Daniella might develop feelings for him while living in her house.
What did he say? She would fall in love with him? It was incredible. His imagination was certainly colorful. “Excuse me? Are you serious?” Daniella shook her head in disbelief.

“I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings, but you know, some women fall easily, especially when… we’re by ourselves,” Marcus said, playfully teasing her until her nostrils flared and her blood boiled. You were already attracted to me in Hong Kong, Dani. So, it wouldn’t be long before that attraction turns into something more… like love.” He continued to pester her, and the shot daggers at him with her fiery gaze.
“Correction. I wasn’t attracted to you, Marcus. You just possessed the qualities I was looking for in a man to be the father of my child,” she lied.
In reality, she was still drawn to his handsome features, especially his mesmerizing eyes. She didn’t even mention his wavy hair that always seemed to be playfully tousled, or his kissable lips that she longed to nibble.
“Liar,” he retorted. “Did you forget that I caught you staring? Not just once, Dani. You did it last night, too!” He enjoyed reminding her that it was impossible for her not to be physically attracted to him. She looked adorable when her cheeks turned red.
“I hope you’re a gentleman and won’t keep reminding me about it,” she retorted.
“I’m guilty! Wait, can’t we just be friends? After all, we can solve our problems if we work together. Don’t you think the same, Dani?” Marcus proposed, suggesting that being friends might make it easier for him to pursue his plan to seduce her.
Daniella considered it for a moment before responding. “Why not? If being civil can help us escape the mess we’re in, I’m willing to give it a try. We must work together, Marcus.” She extended her hand for a handshake, which he accepted. However, when their hands touched, Daniella felt an unexpected shiver run down her spine, causing her to quickly withdraw her hand.
After breakfast, Marcus offered to wash the dishes, which Daniella gladly accepted. She wasn’t fond of doing menial tasks like dishwashing.
“Dani, will you be upset if I need to tear down a part of your house?” Marcus asked, hinting at his desire to escape from his confinement. He yearned for freedom and hoped to achieve it as soon as possible.
“No problem,” she replied. “Paloma and I can renovate the damaged area. I understand why you’re
asking.”
A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she imagined him leaving. She shouldn’t feel saddened by it; what they had shared was meaningless to both of them. There were no emotions involved, except for her strong
desire to become pregnant.
“Don’t tell me you’re going to miss me, Dani.” Marcus noticed a glimmer of sadness in her eyes, though he suspected she was only saying it was okay to tear down part of her house. Yes, that must be it! Still, h secretly hoped that she would tell him she’d miss his presence in the house, even if it was a lie.
“That’s never going to happen, Marcus,” Daniella replied. Though her tone was somewhat defensive, she would never admit to missing him.
