Sparkling Girl
Chapter 16 She Really Likes It–1
The fancy hall had this light wine aroma floating around. Girls in all sorts of dresses, with different body shapes, were buzzing around, each one stunning in her own way, like a garden in full blocch. It was a total vissial treat.
Benjamin blunted out, “What the hell is going on here?”
A tall, commanding woman in her fortles locked eyes with Zney and Henry. “You must be Zoey!
Zoey raised an eyebrow, “Yeah, that’s me. And you are?”
Maya Coleman smiled, her eyes twinkling, “I’m Maya, Henry’s mom esse told me about you two. We’re both grateful. If you don’t mind, you can think of me as your godmother. I’ll have your back!”
Henry raised an eyebrow, “Mom.”
“Stay out of this.” Maya shot him a look and reached for Zoey’s hand
Zoey smiled and smoothly dodged her, ‘That’s very kind of you, but don’t need a godmother.”
She didn’t really have any strong feelings about the Phillips Family, good or bad. Only Jesse made her a bit more patient.
“Why not just agree?” Maya’s fiery personality came through in her aunt words, “Being my daughter–in–law or my goddaughter, I Think the latter is better. Mother in law stuff is always tricky. Don’t you agree?”
Maya paused, giving Zoey a once–over. To be fair, the girl was pretty attractive, with a good vibe, cool and aloof like a fairy, but with a hint of sass in her words. Maya liked her.
But that didn’t n
mean she could accept Zoey as her daughter–in–law.
Zoey smiled faintly, “You’re overthinking it. I agreed to the engagement because Jesse wanted it, that’s all.” She signaled Henry to explain.
Henry w
was about to explain the one–month deal to Maya when Jesse burst in.
“What is going on here? Everyone, out now!” As soon as he spoke, the lively living room went dead silent. No one dared to say a word.
Only Maya stayed calm, “Dad, the party’s already started. If you kick everyone out now, people will say the Phillips Family has no
manners.
“Who told you to throw this party? Jesse couldn’t believe that in just one day of his absence, his newly returned daughter–in–law was causing such a ruckus.
“My son isn’t getting any younger. I wanted to throw him a matchmaking party. What’s wrong with that?”
“What’s wrong is that Zory…”
“Dad,” Maya’s voice turned a bit cold, “If you want to find a wife for my son, you should ask his parents and him too, right?”
Why should her son be forced into something because of a favor?
Jesse was at a loss for words, “I did ask, and Henry agreed.”
“Really?” Maya’s question made Jesse tool a bit guilty.

After all, in front of everyone. Mayo didn’t want to embarrass Jesse. The party can’t end now. Let’s not argue. We need in entertain the guests properly. That’s the Phillips Family’s way.”
With that, Jesse couldn’t force everyone to leave. He sidled up to Zoey, his face full of shame. “I’m sorry for putting you through this, Zoey. But don’t worry, I will never agree to Henry being with anyone else. You are his girlfriend, fiancée, and future wife!”
Jesse’s stubbornness left Zoey a bit helpless. Actually, I don’t necessarily have to be with him…”
“I’m going upstairs for some water.” Jesse, ever shrewd, ran off before she could finish.
Zoey watched his back, wanting to say something, but in the end, shi just sighed.
Henry appeared beside her, handing her a glass of wine. “Sorry.”
Zoey shook her head, “It’s nothing.”
It was just a matchmaking party. Even if Maya found seventy–two girlfriends for Henry, it had nothing to do with her.
“I agree with Grandpa’s proposal,” Henry said.
Zoey was surprised. After all, he had been firmly against it at first and had looked down on her, “Why the sudden change of heart?”

Henry’s face was blank, “With someone else, I’d have to renegotiate the one–month deal.”
In other words, Zoey was just more convenient. Sure, she stirred up some trouble, but she never had any hidden agendas with him, unlike those other wonten trying to seduce him.
Standing here, he felt like a giant cake everyone wanted a plece of. Those hungry looks weren’t for him, but for his family’s status and power.
Zoey felt a bit sorry for him and tried to comfort him, “Look on the right side, life is about gains and losses.”
Henry looked at her through his wine glass, seemingly unbothered by the fact that people were eyeing her fiancé..
“I can work with you,” he said.
“Work with what? Zoey looked puzzled. She was tasting the wine. It wasn’t as good as her mentor’s collection, but it was better than nothing.
Henry’s eyes flashed with annoyance, “At least for now, I’m your boyfriend.“.
He paused, thinking his words might be misunderstood, and added, “th name only.”
Zoey chuckled, “Forget it, I don’t want to get involved in this competition. Your mom already doesn’t like me.” If she got involved, who knew what would happen.
Maya was over t
there, proudly showing off a gentle and beautiful girl her ideal daughter in law. They passed by Zoey, either intentionally or not.
Zoey didn’t want to listen, but her sharp ears caught it. The girl’s name was Thalia Fairchild,
Zoey touched her chin, thinking, Thalia Fairchild, the Fairchild Group heiress, and the Fairchild family was also competing at the press conference.
After looking into the group’s background and the CEO’s character, she immediately ruled out the Fairchild family.
Where there were many women, there was conversation and chaos. Zoey found it annoying and slipped out to the backyard for some
peace.
The backyard was a large garden with a circular fountain. Standing by it, she felt a cool breeze. It was refreshing.
“Miss King,” a soft voice called out.
Zoey found the tone familiar. This gentle, soft way of speaking was just like her sister’s
But it wasn’t Luna, it was Thalia.
Zoey ignored her.
Thalia didn’t mind and continued, “Mrs. Phillips likes me very much and hopes I can be her daughter–in–law. Miss King, you understand what I mean, right?”
“Speak plainly.” Zoey didn’t like people beating around the bush. It wasn’t that she couldn’t understand, she just didn’t want to waste her energy guessing others‘ Intentions.

Thalia’s smile faded slightly, “Miss King, you’re very straightforward I’ll be direct. Please stay away from my fiancé. I hope you won’t become the despised other wontan.”
Zoey couldn’t help but laugh. The so–called engagement wasn’t even confirmed, yet she was already calling herself a fiancée?

“What are you laughing at? Thalia frowned.
“Nothing. Are you done?” Zoey finally looked at her, “If you’re done have. If you keep talking, I’ll hit you.”
Same old tricks as Luna, it just annoyed her.
Thalia didn’t expect her to be so blunt, “You, don’t you have any mailers? No wonder Mrs. Phillips doesn’t like you. You’re not worthy of Henry. I advise you to leave the Phillips Family! Otherwise I’ll tell Mrs. Phillips you bullied me, and you’ll be thrown out in disgrace.”
Zoey gave her a cold look, “Suit yourself. With that, she turned to leave.
Thalia had never met someone who didn’t play by the rules. No matter what she said, the other person just wouldn’t take the bait. Suddenly, she saw someone approaching from the corner of her eye, and her expression darkened.
Zoey had just taken two steps when she heard a splash behind her. She turned to see Thalia struggling in the water?
