Chapter 18
Owen smirked. “Same here”
Hailey gave him a glance but didn’t say anything.
“When are you getting out of the hospital?”
“Tomorrow. It’s just a superficial wound and will heal in a couple of days.”
Owen frowned slightly, asking. “Still going back to that home?”
“No, I’m going to the old house to live with my grandpa. Hailey shook her head.
“That’s too far. We won’t see each other often. Owen lowered his eyes, sounding a bit upset.
Hailey made no response.
“It’s okay. I’ll visit you frequently. Thomas likes me, so he probably won’t kick me out.”
Hailey pursed her lips and looked down. “Owen, don’t waste your time on me.”
“Shut up. Owen looked at her tenderly, his focus so intense it seemed like no one else existed for him except Hailey.
Owen was truly a man who could captivate others easily. He had an exquisite appearance, usually cold but well–mannered, and when he turned on the charm, it was absolutely irresistible.
Maybe he was sincere. But Hailey didn’t want to burden her emotions on a man again.
It was too exhausting, and it came with constant anxiety.
Outside, the lights were dazzling, but the hospital room was quiet the opposite.
Owen whispered softly, “I like you. I’d do anything for you. You don’t have to accept it, but you can’t stop me from being good to you.
Hailey’s heart fluttered at the words. She lowered her eyes, took a deep breath, and stood up to get a cup of cold water.
“I’ll stay with you tonight.” Owen stood up, unbuttoning his suit slowly.
The cool moonlight shone on his robust body.
Suddenly, Hailey choked on the water and started coughing vehemently
Owen casually tossed his jacket on the sofa, walked over, and gently patted her back with concern. “Why are you so careless?”
Hailey glanced at him, complaining inwardly, ‘It’s all because of your shocking words!”
Owen rubbed his nose innocently as if he didn’t think what he just said was inappropriate.
“The room’s small. You should go home.” Hailey tried to shoo him away.
“No way.” Owen’s refusal was well–justified. “To outsiders, we’re a couple now. Since you’re injured, I naturally have to take. care of you day and night to show our love.”
Hailey was left speechless.
“Don’t worry. I won’t do anything to you. I can sleep on the sofa.”

Chapter 18
Before Hailey could say anything. Owen had already stretched out on the sofa.
Hailey sighed helplessly, thinking. Well, since he’s already said it, I couldn’t just kick him out, right?”
With another person around, the ward didn’t feel so empty.
Hailey lay on the bed, her gaze fixed on the sofa in front of her.

Aiden was pretty generous, getting her a VIP ward with everything she needed, except the sofa was a bit small for Owen, who was too tall and looked a bit cramped on it.
If Owen was just a poor college student, she might spend more money to support him if she had feelings for him. But he was the famous head of the Calhoun family, with abilities, money, education, and all that.
She couldn’t control him, so she had to control her own heart.
When Aiden brought Rose to the ward to apologize to Hailey the next day, they were both stunned at the sight of Owen.
Aiden was quick to react, smiling broadly as he approached Owen. “Owen, why are you here so early?”
But Owen only replied coolly, “Mr. Dalton, I’ve been here since last night.
Aiden’s face froze, and he hurried to explain himself. “I had to leave the hospital last night because of an emergency at
work.
Owen didn’t respond, not bothering to act along. Everyone knew the truth anyway.
“Um, Hailey, I’ve already sorted out your discharge procedures. I had the butler send your things to the old house. I’ve also taken leave for you at school, so just get well before going back to school” Aiden acted like a caring father.
Hailey only responded with a faint “hmm.”
“Oh, and Rose realized her mistake. She came to apologize today.” Aiden looked at Rose.
Rose smiled gently, took out a gift box, and placed it on Hailey’s bedside table. “Hailey, I was wrong yesterday. It was an accident. I’ve been regretting it all day, and I bought this bracelet for you this morning as an apology. Please forgive me.”
With that, she opened the box, revealing a purple crystal bracelet from a very expensive brand, worth at least several thousand dollars.
Hailey just glanced at it indifferently before saying, “Thanks, but I like your pearl earrings more. They’re really beautiful. Could I exchange the bracelet for your earrings?”
Rose’s heart skipped a beat as her hand reached for the earrings. The pearl earrings were very valuable and actually did not belong to her, but to Valerie, Hailey’s birth mother.
She looked into Hailey’s big, bright, pearl–like eyes and felt inexplicably nervous. She had a feeling Hailey knew something-
Trying hard to compose herself, she smiled. Tve been wearing these earrings for ages. They’re old now. If you like them. 1 get you a new pair.”
“But I only want the ones on your ears, Hailey said, her gaze deep.
“Come on, it’s just a pair of earrings. You’re an adult. Why so uptight? If Hailey wants them, just give them to her,” Aiden interrupted, looking at Rose disapprovingly.
For Aiden, Hailey was now the “apple of his eye. Of course, in the context of his corporate power struggles.

Helpless, Rose forced a smile and took off the earrings, handing them to Hailey.
Then, they all accompanied Hailey out of the hospital.
Outside the hospital, a car was already waiting.
Owen said. “I’ll take Hailey to the old house. I need to go there anyway.”
Owen’s attentive care for his daughter naturally made Aiden more than pleased, his face beaming with joy as he readily agreed.
Once in the car, Hailey relaxed and rubbed her head.
“Are you feeling unwell!” Owen asked, concerned.
Hailey shook her head, her eyes heavy. “I want to take a nap.
“Go ahead.” Owen extended his arm and naturally pulled her into his embrace.

Hailey was taken aback. Though she wanted to break free, she found herself too exhausted to do so. Additionally, the injury on her forehead still throbbed slightly. The warmth of Owen’s embrace was comforting, and she found herself somewhat reluctant to leave it.
Before she knew it, her eyes had closed, and she had drifted off to sleep.
Owen glanced at the driver, signaling him to slow down.
Hailey was slender and delicate, almost weightless in his arms. Owen looked down at her pale face and sighed silently.
