Chapter 35

“You…” Hailey finally found her voice after what felt like an eternity. She swallowed hard and continued, “Why go through all this trouble?
“Owen, you’re the head of the Calhoun family, and every lady from the wealthy families in Hallon City dreams of marrying you. I’m just a nobody from a backwater town with an empty reputation. Why put so much effort into me? I’m not worth
it…”
Her voice was hoarse.
“Whether you’re worth it is for me to decide, not you,” Owen said gently, taking her hand in his. His eyes were deep and tender. “Others are others; you are you. To me, you’re one of a kind.”
Hailey blinked slowly, her eyes turning red, her throat choked up with unspoken words.
“Maybe my kindness toward you seems sudden, and we haven’t known each other long. Being nice to you so suddenly might feel fake to you, but Hailey, when it comes to feelings, I’ve always trusted my instincts.”
Owen added slowly, his voice soothing, “I don’t know what you’ve gone through that makes you so guarded, but I’ll take my time getting closer to you.
“I can’t bring myself to say too many sweet things because they might come off as just empty words. So, I prepared these two documents overnight. As soon as you sign them, they’ll take effect immediately.”
“No need.” Hailey sniffed, her smile becoming serene. Her eyes, having cried, shone even brighter, as if washed clean by tears. “If you can do all this for me, I can also step out of my psychological impacts for you.
“Owen, as you wish, let’s give it a try.”
*****
At three in the afternoon, Owen dropped Hailey off at the villa.
Christopher was a perceptive person. Lately, he had felt that the relationship between Owen and Hailey was somewhat stiff and strange, not quite like that of a normal couple.
But today, as soon as they appeared together, he noticed a change.
Owen and Hailey walked in hand–in–hand, standing close, occasionally exchanging glances. The air was filled with sweetness, completely different from before.
‘It seems they had a misunderstanding before, but they’ve made up now,‘ Christopher thought inwardly.
The items Hailey had ordered had arrived, and today would be the first treatment for Christopher.
“What do I need to do?” Christopher asked nervously as he lay flat on the bed.
Hailey looked at him with a gentle smile. “Nothing, just relax.”
Christopher nodded but still looked tense.
Hailey took out her phone and asked everyone except Owen to leave.
She walked to the window, pulling half the curtain to block out the sunlight.
Then she played a soft piano piece on her phone.

The environment was quiet, and the gentle, slow piano music filled the air.
After listening for a while, a beautiful, delicate pocket watch appeared before Christopher’s eyes.
The watch spun in front of him, and he gradually felt his eyelids growing heavy until he fell asleep.
Owen, watching from the side, couldn’t help but laugh. “So you can hypnotize too.”
Hailey glanced at him, raising her eyebrows with a playful smile. “There’s a lot you don’t know about me.”
Owen raised his eyebrows too. “Looks like I need to dig deeper into my girlfriend.”
Hailey smiled softly without responding.
Christopher slept soundly.
Seeing that he was truly asleep, Hailey began her work.
Christopher was lying flat on the bed, his limbs long and slender. His legs, pale from years without sunlight, had withered muscles, making them look frail.
Hailey took out the silver needles.
The needles had been sterilized in advance and were ready for use.

To Hailey, Christopher’s legs in front of her weren’t just legs; she could clearly see every nerve and acupoint inside them just by looking at the surface.
Hailey didn’t know if this was a privilege given to her by God after being reborn.
Soon after being reborn, she discovered her own uniqueness.
She had an eidetic memory and was extraordinarily talented at everything, able to learn anything she saw once.
She was like a completely different person from her past life
Regardless, she was grateful for her uniqueness and would always use her special abilities to help others.
The silver needles stabbed steadily into Christopher’s leg.
Hailey’s actions were quick, accurate, and confident; she hesitated not at all, believing firmly in herself.
Her serious demeanor while working was particularly charming, and her expression was cool, stern, and meticulous.
Owen stood beside her, watching intently as if admiring a beautiful painting.
Before long, Christopher’s calf was covered with silver needles.
The neural pathways that still had sensation slowly became active under the stimulation of the needles.
The treatment would take a long time; one session was naturally not enough. It would take at least six months of acupuncture combined with other treatments to see results.
After the acupuncture, Hailey snapped her fingers to wake Christopher up.
Christopher looked a bit dazed. “Is it over?”
Hailey nodded, and then someone brought in a wooden bucket from outside. The water inside was black and had a faint, pungent smell.

Hailey said, “It’s filled with herbs. You’ll need to come here for acupuncture once a week and soak your feet every night before bed with my special herbal mix.
“If it goes well, you’ll see results in three months; if not, it’ll take six months. It depends on your physical condition.
Christopher nodded. “Alright, thank you.”
“My pleasure. Just soak your feet first, it’ll take about ten minutes.”
A servant helped Christopher sit on the edge of the bed and put his feet in the bucket.
Christopher’s legs had long lost sensation so he couldn’t feel the temperature of the water at all.
But Christopher was optimistic. He thought since his feet were already like this, he might as well give it a try.
“It’s getting late. How about we go have our dinner?” Owen looked at Hailey.
Hailey was tidying up.
She left the box of silver needles at Owen’s villa for easy access. She answered, “Sure.”

“Mr. Calhoun, Miss Dalton,” Christopher suddenly called out, smiling. “Thank you for everything. I’m heading back to the Blackwell household tomorrow, but I’ll do my best to keep up with the treatments.”
“You’re welcome,” Hailey smiled.
It was evident that Christopher seemed a bit more cheerful, with less gloom in his eyes, which was a good sign.
He was gradually coming out of it.
“If you’re leaving tomorrow, how about we have dinner together tonight?” Hailey suggested.
As soon as she said this, Christopher caught Owen’s icy glare. ‘Oh, no…‘
“No, thanks. My legs make it difficult to go out for dinner. It’s too much trouble. You two go ahead,” he decisively declined.
“It’s okay. If it’s troublesome, we can eat at home,” Hailey said with a smile. “I haven’t cooked in a while, so this is a good opportunity for you to try my cooking.”
