Owen raised an eyebrow and leaned in close, his voice a low whisper by her ear. “The moment I met you, that thought crossed my mind…”
Hailey’s face instantly turned bright red. She quickly raised her hand to cover his mouth. “Stop,” she said, her voice a bit shaky. “If you have needs, handle them yourself. I’m going to the restroom.”
Without another word, Hailey hurried into the bathroom, almost as if she were running away.
Owen sat back lazily on the couch, the image of Hailey’s bashful, blushing face playing in his mind. She was so cute, and it made him want to pull her close and never let go. ‘What a little tease,‘ Owen thought.
He took a deep breath, loosening his tie to reveal his chiseled collarbone.
His phone buzzed beside him. Reaching for it, Owen picked it up and opened the message, only to realize it wasn’t his phone- it was Hailey’s.
It was a friend request, with the note sayin
[This is Mateo.]
Though they were a couple, Owen knew well that there still needed to be a level of privacy between them.
Just as he was about to set the phone down, another message came through.
[Hailey, I know your boyfriend is Owen, but no matter what, I won’t give up on pursuing you. I like you, and I’m certain I can win you over and take you from him!]
Owen scanned the message, and his expression hardened, a storm of anger rising beneath the calm exterior.
When Hailey stepped out of the bathroom, she didn’t notice anything unusual. Owen was looking at his phone, his face serious and unreadable.
“Is something wrong?” Hailey asked casually, drying her hands with a tissue.
Owen looked up at her, offering a smile. “Nothing’s wrong. Let me take you home.”
Hailey froze for a moment. She thought, ‘Something’s wrong. Otherwise, Owen wouldn’t have changed his attitude so suddenly after being so persistent with me just moments ago!
She looked
up
at Owen, who had already stood and was gathering her things.
“Owen,” she called, walking over to him. “You’re upset.”
She studied him carefully. “Is it because of me?”
Hailey thought, ‘But I can’t figure out why. Everything was fine just a moment ago. Why the sudden change? Could it be something I said before I went to the bathroom? Did I make him uncomfortable?‘
She paused for a moment, biting her lip. “If… if you need something, I can-”
“Hailey,” he interrupted, his voice low and calm.
Owen raised a hand, gently ruffling her hair, and smiled softly. “Don’t overthink it. It’s not about you. It’s work–related.”
Hailey paused, her mind racing as she looked up at him, confused.
“And you don’t have to do anything you’re not comfortable with for me,” Owen continued. “I was the one who pursued you first. In this relationship, I’m already the one who’s lost. As long as you’re still willing to stay by my side, I’ll be happy.”

Feeling helpless, Hailey hesitated for a moment before silently reaching cat and wrapping her arms around his waist
Owen reached up and pulled her into his embrace. “Haley, no matter why you’re with me, you’re mine now, and I’m not letting go
Hailey gave a quiet, barely audide respone, her heart full. She thought, I have to hold on tight, never letting go. As long as he doesn’t let go, I won’t either. He’s Owen–my Owen, for this lifetime. We’ll have our unique ending,
“Knock, knock” There was a soft rap on the door
Hailey reluctantly let go of Owen and walked over to open it.
Casey and Ivan stood outside. “Hailey, are you ready to YZ
Hailey glanced at the time–it was already past nine. It was time to head home. She nodded. “Alright”
“Alright, let’s go then. And while you’re at it, give me a ride, Ivan said lazily. Tve had a drink, so I can’t drive?
Owen didn’t object, simply giving a quiet hum in respome.
Ivan couldn’t help but look at him twice. “So, that’s a yes?” He raised an intrigued eyebrow. “Well, this is rare. I didn’t know you had such a generous side, Miss Dalton. I must say, I’m lucky to have you”
Hailey, ever protective, shot back, “Ivan, have you known Owen this long and never even been in his car? Owen isn’t the type to be stingy
Ivan clicked his tongue, placing a hand dramatically over his chest, feigning disbelief. “Look at you two. You’re not even married yet; you’re just dating, and you’re already so in sync. If you’re not going to look out for poor singles like me, at least don’t twist the knife in our hearts!”
Hailey and Casey couldn’t help but laugh.
Owen, however, remained silent, his expression serious, as if he hadn’t even heard their teasing
“It’s getting late. I’ll take you both home,” he said calmly before turning and walking ahead.
The air grew still for a moment.
Hailey immediately sensed that something was off. Even Ivan and Casey seemed to notice the shift.
“Hailey, did you two argue?” Casey asked quietly.
Hailey couldn’t figure out what had gone wrong either. She tried to push down the discomfort in her chest and shook her
head. “I don’t know either
“From what I know about him, something’s clearly bothering him,” Ivan said, his tone serious. “He’s the type who keeps things to himself, never sharing what’s on his mind. Miss Dalton, if you want this relationship to work, you’ll need to understand what’s going on in his heart.”

Hailey pressed her lips together. “Thanks for the advice.”
Ivan flashed a grin. “As a friend, that’s all I can do. Good luck.”

To give Hailey and Owen some time and space alone, Ivan decided not to go downstairs with Casey. Instead, he called for a driver and planned to head home separately.
As Hailey stepped out of the bar and reached the door, Owen had already pulled the car up.
Just like before, he was kind and attentive, opening the door for her.
Once Hailey got in the car, Owen turned to her and asked, “Where are Casey and Ivan?”
“Ivan said he’d give Casey a ride home,” Hailey replied.
Owen didn’t ask any further questions, simply responding with a quiet “Alright.”
The car pulled away, and the interior was filled with an uncomfortable silence.
Hailey found the silence unsettling. “Owen,” she said softly.
Owen gave a soft hum, his focus entirely on the road ahead.
“What’s going on with you?” She couldn’t hold it in anymore. “Can you
tell me?”
At the traffic light, Owen stopped the car, his expression still calm as he smiled and said, “I’m fine. Don’t listen to Ivan. He doesn’t know me.”
Hailey didn’t believe him. She thought, ‘Such an obvious change… only a fool wouldn’t notice.‘
But since Owen wouldn’t say anything, Hailey knew there was nothing more she could ask.
She pulled out her phone and noticed a message notification. Without thinking, she opened it.
Out of the corner of his eye, Owen’s gaze drifted to the phone in Hailey’s hands.
The friend request and the message were still there. Owen thought, ‘I wonder how she’ll handle that friend request.‘
