Chapter 4
Surprisingly, my soul did not return to the Moon Goddess immediately after my physical body had died.
Instead, I could only float overhead and watch as they came together outside my bedroom.
At the smell of blood, everyone covered their noses in disgust.
“What is Shirley up to again? Even if she keeps going crazy these days, she’s making the house smell so bad!”
Alexander frowned and tried to push the door open, but a soft hand stopped him.
Linda said gently, “I heard that Shirley has accidentally cut herself with a saber yesterday, could it be that her wound ruptured and that’s why it smells so bloody?”
Obviously, it was Alexander who stabbed me, but in her mouth, it was me who had cut “myself.
Alexander’s hand lurched as he pushed on the door, then retracted it.
“Just that little wound of hers, it’s not even comparable to the wounds I received on the battlefield, I’ve already applied the Moonheart Herb ointment to her yesterday, it’s impossible that she’ll bleed again. Unless…… it’s her intentionally cracking the wound, seeking attention of everybody!”
I was a bit surprised to hear that. Alexander would actually spare me the Moonheart Grass Salve?
The Moonheart Grass grew deep in the Misty Forest, its silver–colored leaves marked with heart–shaped patterns. The forest was always shrouded in fog, teeming with ferocious beasts. Many werewolves ventured into the forest, never to return.
The salve made from the grass had the power to stop bleeding and accelerate wound healing.
Back then, Alexander had been seriously wounded in battle, and his life was hanging by a
thread.
I had exhausted all my wishes, so I had no choice but to venture into the forest for this rare
herb.
I got lost for over half a month, narrowly escaping death in the woods, but I managed to bring back the Moonheart Grass and apply it to his wounds.
Alexander recovered and always treated those medicines with great reverence.
Linda, looking dissatisfied, pouted and said, “Brother still prefers his sister. I’m getting jealous.”
Alexander, with an awkward expression, coughed and reassured Linda, “Linda, you know I consider you the best sister. But lately, Shirley’s been acting like a madwoman, and I’m worried that if she dies like that, it might affect you.”
I watched their sibling bonding antics coldly from above, feeling nothing but disgust in my
stomach.
A satisfied smile appeared on my father’s face.
“That’s how our Jones family should be! Shirley, she’s ignored us just because she was once a God’s ambassador. She doesn’t deserve to be our daughter. If you have any dignity left, just stay away so I don’t have to be angry every time I see you!”
I watched calmly from above as my father shook his beard and cursed me. It was hard to reconcile him with the loving father who had once carried me through so much.
Back then, our family had been hiding out in the east when I was attacked by a rogue who tried to hurt my mother, and I was severely injured.
My father, returning from foraging, found us and carried me to the pack, begging the healer to save my life.
We
would have been killed by the patrolling warriors if they had found us.
Lasked him to put me down, but he refused, saying, “Shirley, you’re my daughter, and I consider you my life. Don’t worry. Father will save you.”
I was on the verge of passing out at the time, and he carried me on his back, and his beard tickled me, but it also kept me from just drifting off to sleep.
Thinking about it now, I only feel that it was like a dream.
Mother sighed, “Since Shirley, doesn’t want to come out, don’t force her. I personally cooked today and made a lot of Linda’s favorite dishes, if we delay any longer the food will get cold.”
Once upon a time my mother used to cry to me that she was blind in both eyes and couldn’t take care of her children like other mothers.
Later, at my wish, she had regained her sight, but she never took care of me either. It seemed as if she never regarded what I did for her, instead only took care for her other kids..
To me, she was an ignorant mother, who never bothered to cook for me, or take care of my health and studies.
When Linda came home, she seemed like a different person, delving into the kitchen all day to study her favorite meals and try new recipes for her..
Hearing mother’s words, Linda just jumped to hug her and seemed to shower love saying,
“Thank you, Mom. I love eating your cooking the most. My sister is lucky to
good family like ours. She just needs a moment to relax and clear her mind, then
have such a
everything will be fine. You guys go ahead and eat first, I’ll stay and talk to her.”
Everyone agreed to Linda’s proposal and left together.
Linda pushed the door, when the servants who were guarding the door, saw her coming… They quickly gave her way and greeted her with fawning smiles.
Luna, you’re here.”
One of them saw me on the floor and said, “She must have fainted, the master instructed us to ignore whatever happened.”
He then whispered in Linda’s ear, “Probably playing dead.”
By now, my blood had stretched out far across the carpet.
Seeing the sight in front of her, Linda wasn’t the least bit alarmed, instead, she curled her lips.
“Got it, you guys don’t need to stand guard here, go out and do your own thing.”
The servants hurriedly left.
Linda squatted down, she licked her lips, her eyes suddenly turned scarlet, revealing a pair of sharp teeth.
She examined my body and said to herself, “You’re really dead, aren’t you? Now I’m no longer in any way.”
Linda, are you in there?”
At that moment, Drew’s voice rang out abruptly, startling Linda. He had actually gone and returned.
“I just forgot to leave my newly customized ring. Shelly got mad at me the other day and threw the ring away, she must have been waiting for me to apologize before she wouldn’t come out today
