Chapter 102
Before the tension could escalate further, one of Nathan’s betas approached us, stopping just outside the door. “Alpha Nathan, there’s an emergency at the Johnson Pack. We need to go,” he said, casting a quick, uneasy glance at me.
Nathan’s eyes were locked on mine, full of determination. “I won’t give up on you, Doris. I’m going to pick you and Cyrus up and take you home one day. That’s a promise.” Before I could think, I snatched the bouquet of sunflowers he’d brought and threw it at him. “Keep dreaming. Nathan! And take your flowers with you!”
Tina, my inner wolf, jumped in with a laugh. “Wow, look at him! Does he really think flowers will win you back? What’s next, a dance under the stars?” Nathan barely dodged the flowers, looking confused. “A dance? Is that really the best move?” I smirked, feeling a little more alive. “Not as risky as your chances with me, Nathan!“Tina piped up, “Seriously! Maybe he should go all out and do a magic show. ‘Now you see me, now you don’t!”
I could just picture Nathan trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat and stumbling all over himself. “Honestly, Nathan,” I said, trying to keep a straight face, “you need a new plan. This isn’t some rom–com, and you’re definitely not the charming hero.”
He gave
a half–smile, looking like he was trying to take it all in. “Okay, okay, I’ll work on my strategy.” Tina added, “Yeah, how about you bring a puppy next time? Everyone loves a puppy!” I laughed. “Just remember, Nathan, no matter what you bring, I’m not easily swayed!”
As he stood there looking both determined and a bit defeated, I couldn’t help but feel lighter after expressing my anger.
Tina, my inner wolf, jumped in, her voice coming out strong. “Hey, Nathan! You heard Doris! Just back off, or you’ll have to deal with me!” I could see Nathan’s face flush as he turned, finally making his way back to his beta, who looked relieved to be leaving.
As I shut the door, I heard a little voice beside me. Turning around, I saw Cyrus standing there, a doll clutched in his hand. His head was tilted, and he looked up at me with an expression of admiration that surprised me. “Mum, you look like a superhero,” he said. My heart swelled with warmth, and I couldn’t help but smile. I knelt down and pulled him into

hug, brushing a strand of hair back from his face. It felt like he was all the reassurance I
needed.
“Mummy,” he said softly, his gaze serious and far too wise for his age. “I know how I was born…and I’ll love you with my brother’s love.”
His words hit me in a way I couldn’t describe, filling me with a mix of gratitude and sadness. I hugged him tighter, grateful for this little soul who seemed to understand so much, even when I barely did.
My phone buzzed, and I pulled back to check the screen. It was Carlos. I picked up, trying to keep my voice steady. “Hello, Carlos. Is everything alright?” Carlos sounded more serious than usual. “Doris, is everything okay? I just picked up a major fluctuation in Cyrus’s heart rate. Did something happen?”
I frowned, glancing at Cyrus, who was blinking up at me with innocent curiosity. “No,
everything’s fine,” I replied, though I couldn’t hide the confusion in my voice. Cyrus wasn’t
wearing any kind of monitoring device then how had Carlos picked up on his heart rate?
Before I could ask, Cyrus leaned in close to the phone, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “Doctor, I’m so nervous, Will you come and get me?” I raised an eyebrow, surprised by his
tone. But on the other end, Carlos let out a soft laugh. “Alright, young man. Consider that a
formal invitation.”
Cyrus handed me back the phone, looking utterly pleased with himself, a triumphant grin spread across his face.
Third POV
Several men in black suits stood in the shadows, their eyes trained on Doris and Cyrus as they spoke on the phone. The atmosphere was tense, and the men scribbled notes in their planners. Their expressions were serious and focused.

One of the men, shorter and stockier than the others, leaned closer to the tall him. “Is this guy any good, or is he just Johnson’s Alpha? Seriously, why did our Alpha tell us to keep an eye on this woman?”

the tall man, his face marked by scars that hinted at a rough past, lifted his chin defiantly. The Alpha’s orders don’t need explaining. We just follow them, got it? Our job is to watch her, not to question why.”
The next morning, I woke up feeling grateful for the bond between Carlos and my son, Cyrus. After a quick breakfast, Carlos arrived to pick us up, and he checked Cyrus’s health in the car before taking him to kindergarten.
