Chapter 103
I settled into the passenger seat of Carlos’s car, the familiar scent of leather and citrus filling the air. Cyrus was already buckled up in the back, his little face bright with excitement. “Ready for your check–up?” Carlos asked, glancing in the rearview mirror. “Yup!” Cyrus replied, his voice full of energy. As Carlos drove, he quickly glanced back at Cyrus, checking his pulse and listening to his heart with a little handheld device. “You’re doing great, buddy. All systems are normal.”
Cyrus beamed. “Can I tell you a secret?” he whispered, leaning forward with a mischievous glint in his eye. Carlos raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Sure, what’s your secret?” “It’s about. Mom!” Cyrus said, his voice dropping to an exaggerated whisper.
Before Carlos could respond, they arrived at the kindergarten. Carlos parked the car, and as Cyrus unbuckled himself, he turned back to Carlos. “Promise you won’t tell her?” Carlos chuckled, “I promise. Your secret’s safe with me.”
Just then, Tina, with her ever–vibrant voice said, “What did he say?” she asked. I tried to catch what they had been discussing, but I didn’t hear anything as I focused on helping Cyrus out of the car. “What did you two whisper about?” I pressed Tina as we walked toward the kindergarten entrance. Tina scoffed playfully, “You really should re–learn your five–sense training, Doris. You’re missing all the juicy bits!. I rolled my eyes at her teasing. I swear, Tina, one of these days you’re going to have to teach me your ways.”
Tina laughed. As I turned to glance back at Carlos, I noticed he was watching me intently,a bemused smile on his lips. “What?” I asked. Tina nudged me with her elbow. “Carlos’s wolves are all shy around you! Don’t look too hard!”
Before I could process what she meant, Carlos finally broke the silence, unable to hold back his amusement any longer. “Cyrus told us we should all live in harmony and not create conflicts,” he said with a straight face. I blinked, puzzled. “Harmonious? I mean, we’ve always been pretty peaceful, haven’t we?” “Sure, but maybe it’s your intensity that makes it a little too… interesting for them,” Carlos replied, chuckling softly. I shook my head, hughing a little too. “I’m just me. They’ll get used to it.”
After Carlos and I exchanged goodbyes, I walked into the office. Just as I stepped inside, I spotted Blair. He had a mischievous grin on his face, like he had just discovered a thrilling

secret. “Wow, I knew you two had something going on!” Blair exclaimed, raising his
eyebrows. I waved my hand dismissively. “Not what you think, Blair! We’re just friends.” Uh–huh,” he replied, still teasing me. “Whatever you say!”
I rolled my eyes and tried to steer the conversation back on track. “So, how’s the research going?” Blair straightened up, his expression becoming serious. “No problem at all. I’ve got everything under control.”
Relieved, I felt my heart lift. We had a meeting with the technicians to discuss the perfect solution for our project, and I wanted everything to go smoothly. When the meeting began, I felt a thrill as we shared our ideas with the people from the Sunshine Pack.
To my astonishment, they were more than satisfied. They signed the cooperation agreement immediately, their faces glowing with enthusiasm.
As I walked out of the meeting, the smoothness of it all left me feeling a bit unreal. “Can you believe it, Blair?” I asked, incredulous. “They agreed to inject capital into my business and create jobs for our pack members!”
Blair shook his head, a smile spreading across his face. “Honestly, I didn’t think you could pull this off so quickly. You’re really stepping up, Doris!” Our friendship felt even stronger in that moment. We exchanged excited glances, and I couldn’t help but feel proud of how far we’d come.
After the meeting, I headed over to the medical facility to see Vesta. She was busy with a patient but looked up and smiled when I entered. “Doris! You look radiant today. What’s new?” “I just finalized a big deal with the Sunshine Pack,” I said, my excitement spilling out “They’re investing in my business!”
Vesta’s eyes widened with delight. “I knew you were a natural leader! You should have! broken away from your family earlier, you’d make a fantastic Alpha!” I chuckled, feeling both flattered and bashful. “Thanks, but it’s all for the best, really. I needed to find my own path.”
After a productive chat with Vesta, I decided to visit Carlos. I found him in his office, his usual serious demeanor softening when he saw me. “Hey, Doris! What’s up?” “I wanted to share the good news,” I said, beaming. “I’m taking my career to the next level!“Carlos’s face lit up with genuine happiness. “That’s amazing! You deserve it, truly. Faye’s going to be thrilled too. You should come over; she’s been asking about you.” “Sure!” I said, my heart
welling at the thought. I’d love to catch up with her.”
But little did I know, I was about to walk straight into an embarrassing situation that would
change the tone of my day.
