The crowd parted, and my eyes turned to see Queen Luna enter the room.

“This is neither the time nor the place for petty gossip,” she said. The girls lowered their heads, their confidence crumbling under the weight of her authority.
Then her eyes turned to me. Unlike the girls, I stood my ground, even as her gaze felt like a test. I tried to steady myself and locked eyes with Queen Luna.
“Doris, come here,” she said. Her voice was calm and commanding.

The Queen turned back to address the guests, and I let out a quiet breath of relief.
Thad survived the encounter, but I could still feel her presence looming over me. It was clear she hadn’t made up her mind about me yet.
The way she looked at me made it obvious that my first impression hadn’t been favorable. She might have overheard my response to the girls, and it seemed to unsettle her as she stared at me for a moment longer before turning back to address the guests.
