After hearing Carlos’s insult, their faces flushed with embarrassment, and a few mumbled quick apologies, their heads lowered in shame.
One of them stammered, “We’re sorry, Carlos. We didn’t mean any harm.”
Carlos’s stern expression softened slightly as he glanced down at Cyrus, who was nestled
safely in his arms.
He gently hugged him closer. “It’s okay,” Carlos said. “But be careful next time. People aren’t always as kind as you might think.“.
He paused for a moment before continuing, “You can all go now.” As the girls quickly moved away, Carlos turned to me. “I’d like to invite you to my palace,” he said softly.
I blinked in surprise. “Your palace?” Cyrus, standing beside us, grinned. “It’s so beautiful, Doris. You have to see it. You’ll love it!”
Carlos chuckled, his eyes lighting up with amusement. “I might be the doctor, but I can assure you, the palace is far from boring.”
I wanted to go. The thought of seeing the palace filled me with excitement. But then, I
hesitated.
“I don’t think it’s proper for me to just go. Royal etiquette doesn’t allow it,” I said, frowning.
Carlos smiled and pulled out a folded piece of paper. “I already thought about that.” He handed it to me. “Faye prepared this invitation for you. It’s for a tea party at the palace. Completely formal and polite.”
I felt relieved. “You’ve thought of everything,” I said with a small laugh.
“Of course,” he replied, a playful glint in his eyes.
A&I took the invitation, Carlos glanced at Cyrus, who was still grinning beside us.

‘m sure you’ll both enjoy the tea,” he said with a mischievous smile. “Just be careful! Cyrus treats the palace desserts like a competition.”
Cyrus shrugged with a grin. “Hey, I’m just trying to beat my high score.” Carlos chuckled.
“You’re about to set a new record.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, I hope the palace has a nap room for after all the sugar!”
With that, we headed to the sleek black car waiting for us. The drive to the palace was
smooth.
Cyrus and Carlos kept chatting, sharing their favorite foods and laughing as they compared motes on the best dishes they’d ever had.
When we arrived at the palace, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The gates were tall and intricately designed.
The gardens stretched far, filled with flowers of every color. The palace itself shone in the sunlight, its marble walls almost glowing.
“This is incredible,” I whispered.
Faye greeted us at the entrance. She beamed as she took my hand. “Welcome, Doris! You liked it? Of course you do. Carlos’s palace is the best of all. His brothers can’t compete.”
“Really?” I asked, smiling.
“Absolutely! Queen Luna favors Carlos the most. Isn’t that right, Carlos?” she teased.
Carlos shrugged, neither confirming nor denying.
“Come on, let’s go inside,” Faye said, pulling me forward.
The inside was even more breathtaking. Chandeliers sparkled above us, and the walls were Tovered in elegant artwork. The floors gleamed, and the air smelled faintly of roses.
Faye had arranged a grand dinner. The table was covered with dishes that looked like they belonged in a royal feast. Maids moved around, serving and making sure everything was

perfect.
As we sat down, I couldn’t help but think about the last time I had dinner with Carlos and Cyrus. It had been at Carlos’s house, and the setting was much simpler but still formal.
Back then, Cyrus had been mischievous, spilling a drink. Carlos’s first reaction was to scold the maids. I had argued with him, saying it wasn’t their fault.
He had defended himself, saying, “It’s not a royal family anyway, so there aren’t that many
rules.”
The memory made me smile.
Carlos noticed and leaned closer. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing,” I replied, trying to hide my grin.
“You’re thinking of something,” he said, his curiosity evident. “Tell me.”
“It’s a secret,” I said, shaking my head.
Faye, watching us with an amused expression, stood up. “I’ll take Cyrus outside. You two seem to have a lot to talk about.” She winked as she guided Cyrus out to the yard.
Now it was just Carlos and me. The room felt quieter, but not in an uncomfortable way.
“So,” Carlos said, leaning slightly forward. “What’s the secret?”
I hesitated, but then decided to tell him. “I was remembering how you argued with me at your house. About the maids and the rules. It made me smile.”
Carlos chuckled. “Ah, that. You were always so strict about rules. I didn’t see the point back then.”
Someone had to remind you,” I said lightly.
He nodded, then his tone grew serious. “Doris, there’s something I need to explain.”
