Chapter 81
I must have been pretty deep in my thoughts as I didn’t notice Emma’s careful gaze on me.
“Mommy, are you scheming again?” She asked, her eyes squinted dramatically.
I turned to her, unable to get over my shock so quickly. Somehow, she had noticed the cautiousness in my eyes.
Now where did you hear that word?” I carried her into my arms and attacked her with tickles.
“Mom.” She screamed, unable to defend herself from my onslaught of tickles.
“I heard it on the TV. Mr fluffles always schemes against the terrific three.” She explained,
acting like she was talking with someone smaller than her. “You have that look every time
you’re planning something.”
It was hard to even pretend to be upset with her. She had such an innocent look on her face
as she said that. Not to mention she was as cute as an angel.
Haelor who had been silently watching the whole thing nodded his head. Emma’s little nose
twitched a little.
I was about to ask her what the problem was when she jumped out of my arms. Before any
of us could react, she had thrown herself back into Haelor.
Her obsession with being in Haelor’s arms never ceased to amaze me. Emma’s eyes glinted
excitedly as she shook his arm.
“Let’s go play in the garden.” She suggested.
“Now, Emma-” Haelor tried to say but she wasn’t having anything.
“Please, Uncle Haelor. Please, please, please.” She kept shaking his hands, pulling one of her best puppy dog eyes.

Haelor who was basically defenceless against it let out a sigh. He picked her up in his arms and made his way out the door. He spared me one last glance before shutting the door.
Emma was getting smarter. Much smarter than I had given her credit for. I hadn’t missed the way her nose had twitched back then. She must have sensed something. But what could it possibly be?
Then the scent hit my nose. It was a nice smell that wafted its way through the whole room.
There was only one person with that particular scent.
Quentin. He was here.
For the longest time I’d known Quentin, so I knew he barely, if ever dressed casual. Most of his fits comprised of the most expensive suits known in the kingdom. He prided himself on
his impeccable taste when it came to corporate attires.
Which was why finding him in the living room dressed in a pretty casual get up was very surprising. Standing so close to him, I could see my reflection and what I looked like through his eyes.
My messy hair was the main focus that would draw any and every attention. The rimmed glasses and robe I wore didn’t help matters either.
“Shit.” I cursed under my breath.
Without giving it a second thought, I dropped my computer and began looking for some of my toiletries so I could head into the shower.
A thought hit me and I immediately raced back to the computer and quickly turned it off Quentin who had been watching the whole thing had an amused smile on his face.
“I don’t get what’s so funny to you.” I huffed, eyeing him carefully.
He shrugged. “I wasn’t going to stop you from buying stocks. No need to be so cautious
around me.”
I simply nodded, not saying anything in response. To him, I was simply buying stock and trying to hide that fact or at the very least keep it away from him. But what he didn’t know

was the real reason I had quickly turned the computer off,
That was the gateway to anyone finding out about my real identity. If Quentin had decided to go through the computer when I dropped it, he would have definitely found evidence pointing to me being Ghost Pack’s Alpha. I couldn’t let that happen.
“Noted.” I blew out a breath and grabbed the rest of the toiletries I needed.
I was about to head to the bathroom when I felt Quentin’s presence behind me. I thought about turning to ask why he was so close when he picked me up in his arms.
“Quentin!” I gasped in surprise. “W–What are you doing?”
“You’re acting like this is the first time you’re being picked up.” He chuckled.
“Let. Me. Go.” I huffed, trying to struggle out of his grip.
Quentin’s tall and muscular build meant that all my fighting and struggling was pretty
much useless. He stroked my hair gently, a sincere look in his eyes as he regarded me.
“I just want to help you, Melanie.”
I rolled my eyes. “I hurt my arm, not my leg. Walking isn’t a problem for me so you don’t
need to hold me in your arms or anything like that.”
Quentin simply stared at me for a while. I wondered if he would take the hint and let me walk into the bathroom by myself.
He started slowly. “You said it yourself that I should take the initiative. I’m simply doing as you wish.”
