After hearing everything Grandma Catherine had just said, Leonard was furlous, Maximus couldn’t believe what he’d heard, and Peter simply smiled.
“What the hell are you laughing at, Peter?” Maximus demanded angrily.
“I’m laughing at the fact that your future ex–wife will end up being even more powerful than you or
me.”
“You’re an idiot!” Maximus snapped, standing up and pointing a finger at him.
If the boardroom table hadn’t been between them, Maximus would’ve punched Peter square in the face.
“Mom, are you aware that the Palmers have worked hard to build this empire?”
“I am! But this isn’t just our legacy. It’s also Marcus and Mary’s! I was foolish to think you’d accept it. You can challenge my decision, but legally, it’s already done.”
“Well, I gladly accept my 11% share. Thanks, Grandma. If we’re done here, I should leave–I’ve got a flight to Florentia.”
“Peter, I knew you’d understand!” Catherine said calmly.
“Peter only agrees because he’s never worked a day in his life. All he’s done is spend the money the company sends him every month,” Maximus spat, barely containing the urge to lash out.
“Oh, Maximus! I don’t need the company to live. Ever since I was sent to Galea, I learned not to expect anything from the Palmers. So I don’t care about an 11% stake that cost me nothing. In fact, if you want it, you can have it!”
“You’re an arrogant bastard!” Maximus shouted, striding toward Peter.
“No one is giving away their shares to anyone!” a gruff voice interjected, and a cane blocked Maximus’s path.
“I’m as shocked as all of you!” Marcus said, addressing the room. “Honestly, I didn’t expect any of this. I thought everything ended with the death of my family.

Leonard stepped in. “Maximus, I need you to sit and calm down!”
“How the hell can you ask me to calm down? Can’t you see they’re tearing apart the company we worked so hard to build?” Maximus shot back angrily.
“Son, your grandmother might be wrong, but this isn’t the way to react.”
Marcus approached Catherine. “Grandma Catherine, Im incredibly grateful for everything you’ve done for me! Thank you for caring for me with such love and diligence over the past years. But I can’t accept your proposal.”

“I never thought this would happen!” Catherine said, visibly shaken by her grandson’s reaction. ” You’re supposed to be the most level–headed one here”
“Grandma, why are you surprised? Maximus has always been like this. The fact that you all treat him. like a god is another matter.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, Grandma, I’ve made my stance clear. I can’t return to Valentia. I’ll sign over my share to Peter to manage, and that’s all I’ll do. You have personal issues to resolve that don’t require my presence.”
“Marcus, I’m sorry you had to witness this! I’ll respect your decision. My lawyer will contact yours for the necessary succession paperwork. Take care, and I hope to see you soon.”
