Chapter 47

Nathan drove straight to the hospital. He wasn’t sure if Hilda would catch a cold or not so he decided to send her directly to the hospital first.

As the members of the Clemon family were at the Clemons family hospital because of the Patriarch’s illness, he drove Hilda to Samuel’s hospital.

Hilda didn’t realize that the car had stopped because she was sleeping soundly. Nathan looked at her who had curled her slender figure in the back seat and tightly wrapped in is suit jacket and his ached.

It was rare for him to feel this way towards any woman. He gently went ahead and opened the back seat and carried Hilda off the seat and walked towards the hospital corridor.

Hilda felt that she had a long dream. The dream was full of brightness instead of the usual darkness of lies, pain and betrayal that she usually had. She dreamt that she was with someone who brought her out of all her darkness. When she saw the person’s face, she immediately woke up.

The person in the dream was none other than Nathan.

She sat up only to find herself in a hospital ward. The snow white wall looked extremely cold. When she was struggling to get out of the bed, she noticed that she was being injected with an IV drip. She looked around and asked herself. Was is Nathan who brought me to the hospital?

Thinking about what happened and how she fell asleep in the car, and Nathan’s broad chest and the faint smell of his cologne, Hilda felt a little embarrassed and her face turned red. She shook her head and tried to keep her cool.

Meanwhile outside her ward on the corridor, Nathan and Samuel were smoking

“She’s been weak, and having a cold of late. Fortunately, you dropped her early otherwise..” Samuel said seriously after taking a puff of his cigarette.

Thinking about what Samuel said and how light Hilda’s weight was when he carried her, Nathan took a wif of his cigarette and the smoke filled his nasal cavity. It felt like a miraculous cure that relieved his tense and broken mind at that point. “She would be here for twenty four hours so you make a full body check up on her.” After that he burnt the cigar and turned and walked into Hilda’s ward,

When he pushed the door open and entered her ward, she was awake and sitting on the bed. Seeing her awake, he loosened his eyebrows which had been locked tightly. “How are you feeling?” He asked.

Not long after they reached the hospital, Hilda started burning with a fever. He didn’t even want to think about what would happen if he had taken her directly home.

“I’m okay.” She replied.

“You are weak and have a fever. The doctor advised that you stay in inpatient for a few days for treatment.”

Nathan looked at her and continued. “Just have a good rest here these days to avoid any casualties.”

Hilda nodded. “Okay.”

After a while, Nathan asked someone to bring them dinner

Hilda looked at the delivery man who brought a lot of food which was beyond her diet and Nathan’s and turned to Nathan. “Anyone else joining us?”

Before Nathan could say anything, Samuel barged into the ward. “Of course Mrs. Clemons. It been a while since I had a good food together with Nathan so he invited me today.” He joked.

“Mr. Fleming?” Hilda was stunned when she saw him in a doctor’s coat. She had no idea that the man who brought her food that morning was a doctor. Although she knew he was part of the big four she never thought that he would be a doctor.

“Hmm.” Samuel raised an eyebrow at her.

Although they weren’t that close to each other and Samuel was Nathan’s friend, she felt pleasant and warm being around him. Looking at the feast, she ushered him to have a sit before they all started digging in.

Nathan remained silent all the while they were eating where as Samuel chatted and laughed it off with Hilda. After they were done, Nathan coldly asked Samuel to leave. “Since you are done eating, you may leave now.”

Samuel acted like he was hurt and then turned to Hilda with a sad expression on. “Mrs. Clemon, how can your husband be this heartless. I am your doctor after all but he is making it seem like I came for food.”

Hilda laughed at his expression and joked. “Oh, I also thought you came for the food too as that was what you said when you entered.”

Samuel then turned to Nathan. “Bro, you are your wife are ganging up on me. I’m leaving, I’m leaving” With that he left with a saddened expression.

Hilda laughed at his expression. When Nathan saw how happy Hilda was, he couldn’t help but smile too.

They chatted for a little while before Hilda looked up to him. “Thank you.”

Although her voice was low, Nathan heard it accurately. The man smiled slightly and then as if he had thought of something he turned up his poker face and stood up. “I am your husband. You should stop saying this thank you’s. It is my duty to protect you.”

Hilda smiled and nodded her head. “Okay.”

Nathan walked closer to her and leaned and gave her a kiss. ‘I got to go. Take care of yourself. I would be back later.

Hilda nodded and looked at Nathan who seemed to be in a bad mood all of a sudden. She didn’t ask anything more since she was already used to the man’s capricious moods. Since he asked her to take care of herself. Then she would just take a nap and make sure to keep herself healthy

As it is, her health is the pre condition of her looking for a biological family so she needn’t fall sick.

Nathan walked out of the hospital as Stanley followed him and reported to him. It was about Hilda’s past. Nathan opened the files and flipped through with his slender fingers. He began frowning with each page he turned.

It was about Hilda’s past. It so happened that it all happened twenty years ago. When Hilda was brought back to the Adams family as the daughter of Mrs. Leah Adams. At that time, she travelled out of the country with her husband for a year and a half and when she came back, she brought along a little girl with her claiming she was their daughter. As for the truth behind it no one knew.

Nathan turned to Stanley who was walking beside him and asked. “You mean she came back with the baby after being in Y country for a year and a half?”

“Yes. I think there is something fishy that went on because there is not a single trace of her going for maternity care in all the hospital’s I checked during her stay in Y country. And on the day Hilda was born, that was the same day Miss Gloria was born. And the same hospital that Mrs. Adams had claim she gave birth to Hilda at.” Stanley replied also baffled at the fact.

“So that only means that, Hilda isn’t from this country?” Nathan halted his steps and looked back at Stanley.

“For that I am not sure yet unless Mrs. Adams herself.” He replied with his head down.

“Then you know what to do.” With that Nathan said in the back seat of his car and Stanley took the driver’s seat. He started the car and looked at Nathan who had his eyes closed and head layed back on the seat like he was asleep. “Sir, where are we driving to?”

“Have you done what I requested?” Nathan asked in a cold voice without opening his eyes.

“Yes,” Samuel replied with a smirk on his lips.

“What about Hilda’s car?”

“The bodyguard already had it moved to the garage.‘

“Okay. Head to the hospital then.”

Stanley was baffled at first as they were still at the hospital but thinking about it, He knew Nathan meant where the Patriarch was admitted. The Clemon’s family hospital.
