Chapter 1
CASSIE’S POV
As the plane descended slowly to the ground, I felt waves of excitement in my veins. Sitting by the window, I watched the landscape. The buildings grew larger and more visible as we approached the airport.
Tomorrow is my mother’s wedding day. She would finally remarry after years of being alone. I was ecstatic about it. My dad died years ago and she was never really able to move on. She deserved all the happiness in the world, and I was thrilled that she had finally found someone to share her life with. I can’t wait to meet the man who had captured her heart.
When the plane finally landed. I gathered my belongings and get down, making my way to the exit. I stepped out of the terminal with my bags in my hands. Outside, I looked for the car that would take me to my mom’s pack.
“Miss Cassie?!” à man called.
I looked around, searching for the source of the sound until I spotted a man holding up a sign with my name boldly written on it with a picture of me. This must be the person my mother had arranged to pick me up.
I made my way over to him with a smile.
“Hi, I’m Cassie,” 1 introduced myself.
The man returned my smile warmly “Nice to meet you, Cassie. My name is James,”
Thanks for picking me up”
“It’s my pleasure”
I followed him to the parking lot. He helped me with most of my bags. We finally stoppe a sleek black Mercedes. 1 blinked at the car in front of me repeatedly. I wondered if there had been some mistake. Surely, my mother couldn’t afford.

“Um, is this car for me?” I asked.
“Yes. It’s your mother’s
My mother’s? No way. James must be mistaken. My mom was an average earning woman. There was no way she could afford this kind of car.
“Are you sure?” I asked again.
“Yes. What’s the problem?”
I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing.
“Can I see the picture you have of me?” I asked him “Just for confirmation”
He handed me the photo and it was indeed a photo of me.
“You’re Cassie Matthews, aren’t you?” He asked me “Your mom’s name is Patricia”
“Yes”
“Then I’m with the right person. Come on, your mom’s waiting for you”
James got in. I looked at the car skeptically again. James had gotten my mom’s name right. This must be the car she sent

Well, she’ll explain everything to me when I get home. I entered the car and immediately, James drove off
1 settled into the plush leather seat. Everything in the car was so fancy. I had never seen anything like it.
How did my mom pull this off? Or did she rent this just to pick me up from the airport?
During the car ride with James, I distracted myself by looking outside the window. I stared at the buildings as we drove by. hy been a while since I’ve been home. I’d missed my mom so much. I was happy to be back.
After what teh like hours, James approached the tall gates of my biom’s pack. We were finally here. The pack guards came
side to confirm who we were before letting us in. I looked at the lovely park scenery in awe. The park was beautiful. No wonder people held it in such esteem. 1 looked at the lush greenery and the beautiful flowers that surrounded everywhere. Most of the houses looked alike. They were mostly bungalows Children ran around playing. Their laughter filled the air. I similed, taking everything in.
To my surprise, James drove us to a pair of tall gates again. The security came out and opened it revealing a white grand

nes entered the grounds. The mansion looked like a palace. It had a vast compound, with several small guest houses inside I marveled at the gardens and the trees that were inside. There was a huge water fountain in the middle. At the entrance. I saw my mom waving at the car.
“Cassie” I heard her call excitedly.
As soon as I got out of the car, my mom attacked me with a bear hug. I held her tightly.

I took in her appearance. My mom looked different, a good type of different. She was dressed in a red gown with heels. The gown looked expensive. Her hair fell to her back in deep curls. She also had make–up on. She looked amazing. I hadn’t seen her look this way in a long time.
“I missed you too, mom. You look beautiful”
She waved her hand “Aww… Thank you”
1 looked at the huge grounds “Mom, what is this place?”

Don’t get me wrong. My mom was an amazing woman but I was surprised. She barely went out. I wondered how they must have met. The Alpha wasn’t accessible. People in the pack barely saw him. Apart from that, I heard about how hard hearted he was. If he was as cold hearted as they say. I wondered how my mom managed to break down his walls.
My mother laughed softly. “We’ll talk about that later, darling. Hut for now, we have somewhere we need to be,”
With that, she ushered me back into the car. Janies started the engine once more and drove off
“Where are we going?” I asked her.
“You’ll see. I’m so happy to see you, honey”
She pinched my cheek “Tell me what’s been going on. How’s college?”
“College is great. My classes are going well”
“That’s great to hear”
My mom and I made small talk as the car moved. I was happy to see her. We talked and laughed as we tried to catch up on all the things we had missed during the time we were apart. I wondered where we were headed and what awaited us there.
Eventually, the car came to a stop in a large field. It wasn’t just a plain field. It was decorated. At the entrance, there was a huge banner that read “Happy 18th Birthday Cassie‘. My eyes widened in surprise as I took in the sight of everything. There were pink chairs and decorated tables arranged neatly around the field. There were a few people there. Waiters moved around with trays in their hands, serving people wine and food.
That was when it dawned on me. Today was my eighteenth birthday. I was so over my head that I had forgotten. I must have gotten a text or some missed calls from my boyfriend. I haven’t had the time to check phone yet.
“Is this for me?” I asked in disbelief.
“Yes honey”
“Wow. You did this?”
“No, darling, my husband–to–be arranged all of this,”
I couldn’t believe this. The Alpha arranged this? Maybe he wasn’t as bad as people said. He must be a nice person to do this for his step daughter. I hugged my mom.
“Thank you so much, I said.
“Anything for you darling. You can thank him too when you meet him”
“Sure”
Excitedly, I got down from the car and stepped onto the field. I spotted two familiar faces making their way towards me They were my old friends.
“Anna! Ja exclaimed.
They hugged me tightly. Our laughter filled the air as we talked,

We spoke about what had been going on. We all grew up together but we lost contact. I was surprised that my mom was able to pull this off. It was the best birthday ever.

Suddenly, I perceived a sweet scent that lingered in the air. It drew my attention. I paused mid–conversation. My senses were alert at the scent. The scent was intoxicating. I turned around trying to identify the source. I felt my wolf awaken inside of me. It was unlike anything I had ever smelled before, stirring something deep within me that couldn’t understand..
“Cassie, are you alright?” Anna asked.
Yes. I’m just looking for something”
Just then, my mother’s voice broke through “Cassie–I want you to meet someone
I turned back to face my mother. She held on to a huge man. I marveled at him. He was the most handsome man I had ever laid my eyes on. The surprising fact was that the lovely scent that called out to me belonged to him.
My mom smiled widely “Cassie, this is Alpha Damien, my husband to be, and your step father to be” She said to me and turned to beside him” Damien this is Cassie, your step daughter to be”
At the sight of him, my wolf stirred within me, whispering a single word that echoed in my mind:
Mate.
