The moment Hazel realized she couldn’t find the kids, she had John and his crew on standby.
Scanning the area, she noticed not only were the nannies who usually followed the children missing, but even the bodyguards with Jaxon and Joshua weren’t the ones Gabriel had assigned. They were from the Campbell family’s old estate instead.
Her gaze swept over the crowd gathered near the pool. Most of them were unfamiliar faces, the kind of people who floated around the edges of high society but weren’t part of the real elite.
The true heirs and decision–makers were inside the banquet hall, clinking glasses and discussing potential business collaborations.
After all, those invited by Arthur were the cream of the crop.
This was way more convenient than having their secretaries schedule some formal meeting.
The first floor of the banquet hall was arranged with private seating areas, separated by antique screens embroidered with intricate designs, perfect for the powerful to converse in privacy. The commotion outside by the pool went unnoticed by the important guests inside.

Before Jade could finish, Hazel’s hand moved like lightning, striking Jade’s cheeks twice in quick

The sound echoed in the air, followed by gasps from the crowd.
No one could believe it. Hazel, holding her daughter with one arm, had just slapped Jade twice.

“Am I wrong, Hazel? Why don’t you tell everyone who your daughter’s father is?” Hazel met Jade’s venomous gaze, baffled by why this woman kept provoking her. If it was because she’d sent Yusuf to prison, fine. But what about the first time? Jade thought she had her cornered, her words hitting their mark. Hearing the murmurs of the crowd, a smug sense of satisfaction washed over her.
She pressed on, “Can’t say it, can you? Maybe even you don’t know who her father is!”

When Hazel turned back to Jade, her chilling smile sent a shiver down everyone’s spine.

Jade’s words were cut off as Hazel grabbed her by the hair and dragged her to the pool, kicking her in.
Jade flailed, coughing and choking as she tried to climb out, only for Hazel to grab her hair again and shove her back under.

Jade’s eyes widened in terror as Hazel’s actions left her shaken.
The moment Hazel finally let go, Jade scrambled to the middle of the pool, desperate to put distance between herself and the woman she now saw as completely unhinged.

“I’m Andrew’s wife! Are you all just going to stand there and let this lunatic attack me?” Meanwhile, the Andrew Jade was screaming for was currently in a car not far from the estate, busy entertaining a much younger woman.
His eyes glazed over as he finished, his body shuddering briefly.

Andrew adjusted his pants and patted her head like a pet. He considered kissing her but recoiled slightly at the mess around her mouth.

He stepped out of the car and made his way toward the estate, completely clueless about the ticking time bomb waiting for him.
