Chapter 16 How Can I Miscarry if I’m Not Pregnant?
David held the pregnancy test in one hand and tightly grasped her neck with the other.
His grip was so strong that Caroline’s breath was completely cut off.
“What did I tell you?” He demanded, his voice cold, “Hmm?”
He had warned her before not to secretly carry his child!
Yet she had gone ahead and done it anyway, crossing his boundaries and triggering his fury.

“I told you, Caroline,” David spat, his voice dripping with venom, “even if you were pregnant, I would choke you like this… and choke the life out of that child”
What kind of woman did she think could bear his children?
Lowly, manipulative, the kind who would use her child to climb the social ladder, enjoying the wealth and power of a family that wasn’t hers.
Caroline was suffocating, tears unconsciously slipping from the corners of her eyes.
“No… No…” She struggled to force the words out, her voice barely a whisper, “The child… he… he’s not…”
She wanted to say the child wasn’t David’s!
But the more she spoke, the tighter his grip became.
The disgust in his eyes was evident, laced with scorn.
His mother had warned him to not mistreat Caroline, but here he was, certain that this woman had been scheming to stay within the Ellison family all along.
Caroline’s vision blurred, unable to make a sound.
She had worried that David would fly into a rage if he found out the child wasn’t his. Now, it didn’t matter if the child was his biological son, he still wouldn’t spare her!
Truly, the ruthless head of the Ellison family.
As she stared at the pregnancy test, she slowly raised her hand, trying to reclaim it.
David snorted coldly, swatting her away. He threw the test back at her, hitting her face.
“Dying in my hands? I wouldn’t touch it, it’s beneath me.”
Caroline staggered back, collapsing onto the floor. A deep breath of air rushed into her lungs, making her cough violently, gasping for breath.
She clutched her chest, trying to steady herself.
David, composed and elegant, remained detached. His cruel words cut through the silence. “What kind of miscarriage would you prefer?”

Caroline bowed her head in silence.
“Speak!” David shouted, throwing a lighter at her.

The hard metal struck her forehead, causing a deep cut blood immediately dripped down her face, running along her temple and brow.
The sight was unsettling.
The blood dripped steadily, falling onto the pregnancy test lying beside Caroline’s hand.
She stared at the test, and suddenly, something caught her eye.
She realized that the name on the test wasn’t hers!
What was going on? Did she take the wrong test when she left the hospital? Or had the hospital made a mistake in all the chaos?
No matter what, this was Caroline’s chance to escape!
She lifted her head and looked at David. “I’m not pregnant. How could I miscarry? What would be miscarrying?”
David narrowed his eyes dangerously.
With solid evidence in front of her, yet she still dared to lie to his face?
She had some nerves!
Caroline casually wiped the blood from her forehead and picked up the test. “David, take a good look. The name on this test isn’t mine.”
David glanced at the name on the form.
It wasn’t hers.
What was going on? Had he misunderstood her?
Caroline remained calm and continued to argue, “I just got back from the hospital after my IV. The doctor handed me a physical check–up report as I was leaving. I didn’t look at it, just stuffed it into my bag. I didn’t expect it to cause such a misunderstanding.”
“I don’t even know whose pregnancy test this is,” she said slowly, “but I’m not pregnant.”
