Recalling their time together that night, David was actually touched and somewhat missed it.
Her gentleness, silky smooth skin, as well as how she held through his rough and violent sexual acts, biting onto her lips, and quiet sobbing made him feel pitiful.
He was in deep effect of the drugs at the time, and he did overdo it on her.
In the guestroom, Elizabeth’s face had anticipation written all over and a slight hint of anxiety.
“Mom and dad, will Mr. David believe that I was the woman that night?”
“Mr. David had already been checking all over, and now that he thinks it’s you, why don’t you just go with the flow? Mistaken or not, don’t miss out on such a big opportunity!” Samantha replied.
“After considering for such a long while, I think there’s no other option than to bring you over to meet Mr. David.” Matthew said while nodding.
That day in the lobby of the Brooks‘ house, Mr. David was interrogating him, asking him to hand over the woman that was sleeping in the room that night.
How could I do it? Tell him straight that the woman was Caroline?
That would expose that the Brooks had sold Caroline’s first time to a plutocrat on the night of the wedding!
Yet I didn’t say anything, and I don’t think Mr. David will just let it slip.

After a deep and long thought, Matthew decided to take the risk and let Elizabeth feign as the woman that night.

Heavy footsteps could be heard approaching, and David appeared into his sight.
Coldness covered his face, and he sat on the main seat, asking for Matthew to spill it.
“I was going to keep this a secret until I die, but if Mr. David has found out about it, I’ll have to admit that that night…” Matthew replied while rubbing his hands, looking cramped.
He eyed Elizabeth, hinting at her.
Elizabeth understood immediately and caught on.
“I was sleeping in the room that night, and suddenly there was an unfamiliar man beside me, and he did it to me without saying anything. I didn’t have the strength to struggle or fight back…”

“And to a woman, it is fatal that someone took their virginity without knowing who the person is. I told my parents when I got home, and they decided to act as if nothing had happened.” Elizabeth said while squeezing two trails of fake tears from her eyes.
Samantha added on and said, “That’s right, if we were to push on and find out who it was, it would become known to everyone that it happened to Elizabeth, and she would live her life in shame. So we decided to keep it a secret, until Mr. David found out and told us that it was you that night.”
David was holding his arms, looking indifferent, nobody knew what he was thinking.
But his thoughts were not something mere mortals could have guessed.
Elizabeth was sobbing and continued saying, “Mr. David, we’re just not destined, you’ve married my sister and now my brother–in–law, I wouldn’t dare to think otherwise. Let’s just act as if nothing had happened.”
Samatha, following up to the act with a heartbroken face, said, “Oh my Elizabeth, how are you going to live on like this?”
The family orchestrated the act somewhat perfectly.
“Let’s just take it as a summer dream.” Elizabeth stood up, mesmerized, and looked deeply into David’s eyes, “I don’t want to make it difficult for Mr. David, nor do I want to steal my sister’s man. Let me bear all these myself.”
She held her face and ran outwards.
“Oh my Elizabeth…”
“Elizabeth, my silly child!”
The parents chased over while wailing in unison.
And at this moment, David spoke up with his deep voice.
“I’ll be responsible for the night.”
