Chapter 2
During my time in prison for Edward, I’d had my head cracked open.
I was allergic to anesthesia and hadn’t felt any pain eve
with thirty stitches, but now the pain was so intense my vision went dark.
Fighting through the agony, I trembled as I grabbed a corner your uncle. This veil was custom made for me. I didn’t steal ”

Before I could finish, Edward grabbed my face and violently pulled at my mouth, “Uncle is the head of the entire family. Without his word, even my parents don’t dare speak. Caroline, what makes a woman who’s been to prison think she’s worthy of him?

He let go. I stumbled, crashing into a shelf, and my grandmother’s memorial photo fell to the ground.
I frantically picked it up, wiped off the dust, and carefully held it to my chest.
My mother said grandmother’s last wish before passing was to see me get married, and she’d specially taken this photo with her brightest smile for it.
Who would have thought the wedding hadn’t even started and Edward had already ruined it.
As tears welled up and before my resentment could subside, Emily’s pitiful voice came from the doorway, “Carol, I know you don’t want Ed to marry me, but why would you deliberately bring grandmother’s memorial photo to ruin my wedding?
“Doing this is like cursing my future children with Ed. It will only make brother Ed hate you more. Carol, please stop this and give me grandmother’s photo, I’ll put it away for you.”
“Get away! Don’t touch me!”
Emily tried to grab it, and I turned away to dodge, but she gripped my arm tightly and whispered, “Caroline, now you’re crying? Where were these tears when you were killing someone? Don’t you know that old hag was still muttering your name even when she was confused on her deathbed?”
Emily’s words pierced my heart like a sword, making my fingertips tremble with pain.
Before I could react, she suddenly grabbed my hand and fell backward, scraping her palms red on the ground.
The woman cried with tears streaming down her face, “Carol, I was trying to help you, why did you push me? Oh, brother Ed, my stomach hurts – did I hefirt the baby?”
“Emily, stop playing these games – Ah!”
A heavy kick to my chest sent me crashing to the ground, my palms instantly scraped bloody.
Edward gently helped Emily up, showing a tenderness in his eyes I’d never seen before.
He stepped on my grandmother’s memorial photo, glaring down at me, “Caroline, how dare you push Emily? Don’t you know she’s carrying my child?
“And bringing a dead person’s photo to ruin my wedding with Emily. I’ll teach you to scheme! To bring this here!”
Edward repeatedly stomped on grandmother’s photo, not stopping even as the glass shards tore through her kind smile.
“Stop, Edward, stop! I won’t let you disrespect grandmother!”
I reached out to protect the photo, but his foot came down anyway.
Glass pierced my palm, nearly making me faint from pain.
Edward pressed down hard on the back of my hand, instantly jolting me back to consciousness.
He grabbed my face, his thumb pressing deliberately into the wound he’d just torn.
The excruciating pain filled me with despair, and I spat blood at Edward, “Edward, if you have the guts, torture me to death today. Otherwise, I’ll never let this go.”

“Torture a woman who’s been to prison? Wouldn’t that dirty my and Emily’s wedding? Harm my child?”
Edward released me and stepped back, standing half a meter away.
He kicked aside my injured hand and picked up the damaged frame, smashing it against the wall.
Grandmother’s photo was reduced to just a flimsy piece of paper.
Realizing what Edward was about to do, I looked up in horror, “What are you doing? Edward, I won’t let you disrespect grandmother! Stop, stop!”
The lit lighter hovered beneath the photo as he gave me a mocking smile, “Caroline, if you’re going to beg, do it properly.”
