With each word from the makeup artist, the hatred in William’s eyes grew deeper, now evolving into barely contained murderous intent.
He clenched his jaw and pressed, “What else did he say?”
“He said Miss Caroline had been violated before, that she was already impure, so he let his friends have their fun with her as they pleased.”
The body holding me trembled more and more, two tears falling onto the back of my hand, burning like fire.
William clenched his fists, his crimson eyes fixed on the petrified Edward and Emily, saying word by word, “If your ears don’t work, then you don’t need them.
With a clang, Edward threw out a folding knife from his chest.
The cold gleam reflected in William’s eyes, exposing his terror.
Emily was so frightened that urine ran down her red ceremonial dress.
Realizing William was serious, Edward’s face turned pale as he desperately tried to defend himself, “Uncle, it’s, it’s all a misunderstanding.
“You don’t know, this Caroline killed someone before, she even went to prison. Don’t be fooled by her fake innocence. Letting such a woman into the family would disgrace us.”
As Edward calmly slandered that past incident, I felt that I had wasted my sincere feelings on a beast.
William wiped the tears from my eyes, patting my hand soothingly while staring intently at Edward, “Edward, you say Carol killed someone – where’s your evidence?
“What weapon did she use? Where was the victim’s fatal wound? You say she was violated in prison, then tell me, who violated her?!”
Caught off guard by William’s direct confrontation, Edward faltered, “This… these records must be with the police. If Uncle wants to see them, I can have someone bring them over right away.”
As he moved to make a call, William shouted, “Edward, you really have the nerve to make that call?
“Don’t you, as the person involved, know exactly what happened that graduation night? You need to ask the police?
“Or is it because you know Carol is innocent, and you’re planning to bribe a fake police officer to falsely testify against her?!”
Under William’s overwhelming presence, Edward was struck speechless.
Emily stepped forward smugly, explaining, “Uncle, you don’t know, but I have surveillance video from that night as evidence, proving that this Caroline really did kill someone.”
“Shut up! You dare call me uncle?”
Emily trembled violently at his fury, not daring to even blink.
After berating Emily, William glared at Edward, “Gone mute? Speak!
“Too afraid? Then I’ll speak for you.”
Looking at Edward’s panicked face, I was transported back to graduation night.
Edward threw the bloody hammer on the ground, looked at the motionless body, and instantly panicked.
He knelt down begging me, saying he had cracked someone’s skull, that the family wouldn’t forgive him, and the righteous William especially wouldn’t forgive him.
Crying, he grabbed my hand asking me to take the blame, promising he would change and swearing he would marry me after I got out of prison.
I was soft–hearted, worried about ruining his future, so I agreed.

Who knew that after I went to prison, he would forget all the promises he made to me.
He took Emily to our secret garden, letting her uproot the cherry tree he had planted for me with his own hands.
He went to the marriage temple where we had made our wishes, tore up the vow card that said he would be good to me forever, replacing it with one promising eternal love to Emily.
He spread rumors everywhere that I was obsessively in love with him, that I wouldn’t give up on him even after killing someone and going to prison, defaming my reputation.
In just three years, Edward had changed from someone who once only had eyes and heart for me into this scum who only knew how to slander and ostracize me.
