David settled into his chair at the head of the table, sipping his tea but with a warning tone, “Regardless of how you treated Caroline before, she’s under my wing now.”
He was clear, only he could decide her fate. Anyone else touching her deserved punishment.
Touch her? Over my dead body!
Elizabeth’s discomfort grew. “Mr. Ellison, your protectiveness over her, does it mean you like her?”
His response was instant; the teacup hit the table hard.
Tea splattered.
“Have feelings for Caroline?” He glared at Elizabeth.
There was no chance he’d ever fall for her.
He wished for nothing more than her disappearance, far from his sight.
Without Harper’s influence, she’d have been long gone!
Elizabeth, taken aback, stuttered, “L… L… Mr. Ellison, you show her such favor; it upsets me. Remember: what you promised?”

“Is it still valid?”
“Of course.”
Relieved somewhat, Elizabeth was about to press on, but Samantha pulled her away. “Mr. Ellison is a man of his word; you worry needlessly. Come, let’s go.”

“People are in place. Someone will wait for her on her way to the Ellison Group and take the chance to… kidnap her!”
