David’s expression darkened instantly, his gaze cold and laced with a murderous edge.
He shot to his feet, locking eyes with Elizabeth. “Say that again.”
Elizabeth trembled, feigning fear as she backed away repeatedly. “Mr. Ellison, I… I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry! Just pretend you didn’t hear it. It was nonsense, my mistake. I shouldn’t have gossiped behind Caroline’s back…”
She was nearly in tears, waving her hands desperately. I didn’t mean to say it. I just thought you had a right to know. I’m not sure what happened between you and Caroline after marriage, maybe you already knew, and I spoke out of turn.”
David initially intended to pressure Elizabeth, hoping she would break under the weight of his authority

As for how it happened and with whom, Elizabeth was free to weave her own narrative.
Judging by Mr. Ellison’s expression, it’s clear he hasn’t touched Caroline yet. Perfect. This time, Caroline won’t get away unscathed!
David’s eyes narrowed. “How do you
know her secret?”
“Caroline was close to a guy back in college. I think his name was Nash,” Elizabeth replied. “They had a great relationship. He often drove her home late at night. A few times, they even stayed out all night, claiming they went camping with classmates…”
She spoke while carefully observing David’s reaction.
“Of course, whether they actually camped or went somewhere else, I can’t say. But Mr. Ellison, a man and a woman alone together, liking each other, how could they resist?”
David’s expression grew increasingly grim.
Caroline had always insisted that her relationship with Nash was pure, just shy of romance, built on

Turns out, she lied to me.
His woman had already belonged to another man. She was a second–hand possession.
Without hesitation, David strode toward the stairs.
“Mr. Ellison,” Elizabeth called out, pretending to restrain him. “You didn’t know? I assumed you and Caroline had already been together and that it didn’t matter to you.”
David brushed her hand aside, unwilling to engage further, continuing his climb upstairs.

Watching his retreating figure, Elizabeth loudly added, “I even wondered if Caroline had secretly gone to the hospital for surgery to restore that… layer, so you’d think she was a virgin.”
