Peter left the hospital to meet with Darius. His plan was to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure he wouldn’t have to return to Valentia. His mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, especially now that his memories were slowly coming back. He couldn’t afford to leave arry lose ends–he needed to organize the life he was leaving behind.
“Darius, it’s good to see you,” Peter said, sipping his coffee
“Mr. Peter, how can I help you?”
“Darius, I need you to speak with Marcus Bartz. We need to unfreeze my assets. Everything in those accounts should go directly to Serenity Bartz Hunter. That shouldn’t be a problem–Marcus’s her father, and he shouldn’t object. But if he does, she’s legally an adult. It’s not a fortune, but it’s enough for her to live without worries.” “Mr. Peter, what are you planning? Those properties and assets amount to a considerable sum.”
“Exactly. Originally, they were meant for my wife at the time and my daughter. I don’t want to stir up any conflicts, so I want everything unfrozen and transferred to her. But it’s crucial that the inheritance be under the name I specified. I’m not getting into a battle over surnames.”
“Understood. If that’s your decision, I’ll take care of it. What about your house in Galea? It’s not fully paid off yet.”
“That one needs to be settled. I want the title transferred to Valerie Hunter.”
“Sir, is something wrong? Why are you distributing your assets like this?”
“Darius, I’m leaving, and I’m not coming back. It’s time to close this chapter of my life. You and I will stay in touch, but I don’t want to leave anything unresolved here.”
“Very well, sir. Everything will be handled as you’ve instructed. I just need you to sign a power of attorney so I can act on your behalf. Let me get my tablet for a digital signature.”
“No problem.”
“Señor… are you sure you want to leave? It seemed like you were finally settling back in here.”
“Valentía only holds bad memories for me. My life is in Slovenia. I should never have come back to this cursed country.”
“Señor… what should I do if one of the beneficiaries tries to contact you?”
“I doubt they will, but if it happens, just let me know. I’ll handle it.”
“Understood, sir. Here it is, just like last time. Sign here and here, and we can move everything as you’ve requested.”
“Thank you.”
After a long conversation, Peter and Darius shared a warm embrace. Just as they were about to part, Peter remembered something.
“Darius…”
“Yes, sir?”
“I need you to handle my divorce proceedings.”
“Oh, that? Don’t worry, sir. That marriage was never legally registered. I used some legal maneuvers to transfer authority to the señora. Your marriage to Ms. Levett doesn’t exist.”

Peter was stunned. He had thought resolving that issue would be a drawn–out ordeal. Knowing it wasn’t even legally valid brought him immense relief. Elijah would eventually stop receiving a salary, leaving Alexia without support. He still needed to figure out how to end things with her, but for now, this news lightened his burden.
“Thank you, Darius. What would I do without you?”
“It’s nothing, sir. You’ve been incredibly generous to me and my family. This is my way of repaying you.”
“Well, Darius, I’ll leave you now. We’ve taken more time than expected, and I need to pick up Ethan from school. I’m taking him to the movies today.”
“But sir, you hate those kinds of things.”
“True, but tell me, is there anything you wouldn’t do for your kids?”
“Definitely not, sir.”
“Exactly.”
Peter glanced at his watch and realized he still had a few hours before Ethan’s school let out. As he reflected on the situation, he knew the truth would inevitably come out. The only question was who would tell it. He could let things unfold on their own or muster the courage to face the bitter truth himself.
“Damn it… Time to do the right thing, Peter.”
As he drove, he thought through his decision. It was made. At the next turn, he veered off the planned route and headed to the home of the woman he had been avoiding for 12 years. The decision was final—if anyone had to explain, it would be him. He had nothing left to lose, especially since he was leaving Valentia later that same day.
