Chapter 11
Pulling a chair out, Hilda remained standing for a longtime.
Nathan retracted his gaze and his lips curled into a faint smile. “Family? I don’t have one yet.”
Hilda’s heart beat uncontrollably as she wondered if she had said something she shouldn’t have. Feeling at a loss, she finally sat down.
Nathan smiled and brought a pot of porridge from the kitchen. “Miss Hilda, it couldn’t be helped last night as I had to lower your body temperature. The doctor said you might have a fever again today but since you are all fine you should take something really light.”
Hilda looked at him in surprise. He looked different from the usual cold demeanor he usually had. Nathan wasn’t in suit today. He merely wore a set of grey colored casual clothes but he still looked really good
And the most surprising was his homely demeanor. He could even cook. “It smells good.” Hilda said as she took a whiff.
Nathan smiled and filled her bowl with some porridge. “Then give it a try. I only started making it earlier so there wasn’t much time.”
Taking a mouthful, “No, it’s better than what I would make.” Hilda said truthfully as she ate. Nathan wasn’t just handsome but he was also good at coolding too.
Nathan squinted. He seemed pleased with her reaction “Since it is good, You should help yourself to more.”
“Okay.” Hilda nodded but froze the next moment. She looked up at Nathan and the memories from yesterday reappeared in her mind.
She recalled all what her mother and father as said. She was still of use. She was going to be married off to someone to form a marriage alliance with her family.
Hilda bit her lips as she stirred her bowl of porridge. “Mr. Nathan, You said you wanted me to be your woman. You said you will marry me. Is the deal still on?”
She had thought about it. If she really had to marry someone, then Nathan certainly wouldn’t be a bad choice. At least she still had a say in this marriage. At least Nathan won’t decide on his own and she wouldn’t have to submit to someone to form a marriage alliance.
Hilda bit her lips until it almost tore. She lowered her head and gripped the spoon as she waited for Nathan’s reply.
Nathan’s eyes narrowed as he stared at Hilda. He placed the spoon down and tapped on the dinning table with his slender fingers in a rhythmic manner. He gazed at Hilda with his pair of cold eyes making her vulnerable. He didn’t speak but there was a hint of amusement in his eyes.
Hilda felt so nervous after not hearing his answer after some time. Time came to a stand – still as Hilda’s heart beat faster than normal and uncontrollably. She suddenly regretted asking that on impulse. No matter what was going through her mind, she shouldn’t have asked that.

Blushing, she kept her head down as she was really embarrassed. She couldn’t bring herself to look at Nathan. Which girl would asked such a shameless question?
Nathan had been staring at her as he took notice of all the reactions she had on her face after saying those words. His eyes glistened with smiles. He tapped his fingers on the table as though he was knocking on Hilda’s heart.
Biting her lips, Hilda felt more awkward. She was in a passive position now. No matter what she says it is going to be very passive. “Ugh… Don’t take me serious. I was just asking.”
“But I already did.” Nathan said with a hint of jest in his voice.
Hilda had wanted to give up on her question as she found it embarrassing but she never expected Nathan to respond this way. She look up and stared at him in disbelieve. “Huh? What do you mean by that?”
She though Nathan wasn’t being serious because his actions just now said otherwise. she wasn’t hoping for him to take her serious.
“You heard me. I’m a person who stands by his words and do not joke around. I said I will give you time to consider and since you have made up your mind to bring it up now, we should talk about it. There shouldn’t be a turning back. What do you think?”
As he spoke, Hilda felt a moment of fear but for some reasons but it quickly disappeared. From the beginning since Nathan voiced out, she felt a tingling sensation in her heart.
“inst…. I just wanted to
“You don’t have to worry Miss Adams. I’m not concerned about what made you speed up your decision making though.”
Hilda had no idea how to describe her feeling at that moment. Should she entrust her life to him just like that?
Nathan continued. “Don’t worry Miss Adams, As I have said before. Marry me and I will give you the happiness no man can.” Tapping on the table he continued. “If you agree to it, you can request anything you want.”
Hilda thought for a moment and asked, “Why me Mr. Nathan?”
Nathan did not respond and the atmosphere became tense. He stopped tapping on the dinning table and looked at Hilda. After a while he smiled. “Do you really want to know why?”
Hilda nodded.
“There is no particular reason. It just so happens that you appeared at the right place at the right time so that makes you the right person.”
Hilda figured that since she was going to get married to Nathan she has got to know about his thoughts and convey hers.
Hilda stared into Nathan’s eyes trying to figure out something by looking into them. Nathan also stared back as their gazes locked. Hilda retracted her gaze before replying “Okay.”

“So what’s your answer Miss Adams?”
Hilda nodded and after a while decided “If we get married, my wants are actually quite simple plus I do not like anything complicated. I will be sure to manage things well and so I will never consider divorce.”
Nathan raised an eyebrow. “That’s great. We think alike. I won’t initiate a divorce but of course you should let me know any day you wish to end this marriage.” He said with a smile. “Anymore questions?”
