Daniel stood in front of her and blocked her path. “Hilda, I’m worried about you. Where were you last night? Carmen and I were worried sick. You are my first love so you should know that I would always love you. We called you so many times but you didn’t even bother to pick up the calls. We…”
“Enough! Worried? Hah. Why would you be worried? Weren’t you guys so in love and couldn’t wait to get engaged? So you should try your best and stop saying this silly things about you loving me. I’m your sister–in–law.”
“Hilda, why are you so on guard against me? I’m your first love and brother in law. I would never think of harming you. We are doing everything for your own good Hilda.”
“Never harm me? Hilda scoffed at his words. “Think about what all of you did and ask your conscience whether you have harmed me or not. Please just let me be. We are at work so we should not be talking about such matters.”
Daniel refused to give up even though Hilda had made her self clear. “You have misunderstood everything Hilda. Yes I betrayed you by getting engaged to Carmen but it is not what you think Tell me where you were the night before yesterday. The man with the Maybach, who is he to you? I saw you getting off his…”
“Enough!” Hilda couldn’t believe what she was hearing, “Who I was with and what the person is to me has got nothing to do with you. How dare you question me? Who the hell do you think you are to me?” Daniel’s anger flared up when he heard Hilda. “Doesn’t concern me you say? Hilda I’m your boyfriend!”
“Hah, boyfriend? You are my ex. Have you already forgotten that you are engaged to my sister? Carmen is your fiancé.”
Daniel never imagined that Hilda would talk to him like this. “Hilda, you shouldn’t be talking like that. You were never like this. I remember how sensible and gentle you were. Why are you acti…”
“Daniel, you are being ridiculous. When you were engaged to Carmen you wouldn’t admit that we are a couple. What’s wrong? Are you already regretting your decision so you crawling back to me? Does Carmen know you are here?” Hilda wasn’t a cold hearted person but she wasn’t a saint either.
Lowering her head Hilda smiled bitterly. She was good at entertaining herself. She always persuaded herself that her parents wanted her to be independent, but anytime she saw how her parents treated Carmen well, she knew that she was only lying to herself. Though she knew the truth, she didn’t know where to start and find her biological parents.
Pushing him away, Hilda walked out.
Staring at her back, Daniel felt that something was slipping away from him. He wanted to grab it, but he could not as it slipped through his fingers like water and sand.
“Hilda…” Dejected, he watched her leave..
Walking away, Hilda walked into the washroom. As soon as she entered the washroom her phone rang. Looking at the unknown number, she hesitated for a while before answering it. “Hello?”

“Pumpkin.” A deep male voice was heard. Hilda was stunned. “Mr. Nathan?”
“Hmp.. How are you doing Pumpkin?”
Hilda was surprised. “I’m doing good. What about you? How is it going over there?”
Lazily Nathan replied. “Everything is okay.”
Hilda had no idea what to say next. The man was out of the country but he managed to get her number and checked up on her. “Thank you.”
Nathan was miles away. It was already late where he was. As he sat on the sofa, he drummed his fingers on a table beside him. “We are married. You don’t have to be this polite.”
Married? Hilda bit her lower lips and blushed.
It was strange hearing that word. But strangely it didn’t affect her.
Yes she was married.
Nathan continued. “It is already late here. Take care. I will be back before you know it so pack up your belongings as I will be coming for you in a few days time.” Nathan then bid her goodbye and hanged up.
Hilda felt warmth spread through her heart as she stared at the phone. Besides her two best friends, Nathan was the only person who cared about her feelings.
Thinking about it, marrying him wasn’t that bad even though she didn’t marry for love.
Hilda covered her face with her hands to cool down her flushed cheeks after pocketing her phone. After a while she washed her face and walked out of the washroom.
Back in her office, she was thinking about it. Nathan was right. Since they were legally married as husband and wife, they would eventually have to stay under the same roof. She then smiled.
At this time Annabel enter her office and saw her smiling. Surprised she asked. “Hilda what’s making you smile like this?”
“Huh? Who said I was smiling?”
“Hahahaha.. Hilda I just saw you smiling now. Oh or it is a who?”
Shocked, Hilda retained a serious expression. “What are you talking about? Hurry up and get back to work.”
Laughing Annabel gave her some documents and went out.
Carmen came to Stephenson group during lunch time. She arrived with a lunch bag in tow. Entering she went straight into her sister’s office. “Sis”
Noticing Carmen who had entered her office Hilda frowned. “What are you doing here?”
Looking around the office Carmen replied “I brought some food for Daniel and figured you should also joined him.”
Carmen thought Hilda was going to be jealous since she brought some food for Daniel after all Hilda is

Looking at Carmen who was acting all pretentious she sneered. “Thank you but I’m not hungry.”
Not willing to back down Carmen added “I personally prepared all these by myself. Take a look they are all Daniel’s favorite. The last time I did, he told me he loved it.” Carmen knew very well within herself that the foods were all takeaways from a high end restaurant.
Just then a deep male voice was heard. “What are you doing here Carmen?”
Turning their heads to the door they saw Daniel walking in.
Smiling shyly, she walked towards Daniel. “I made something for you. Since you have been busy these few days I thought it will be okay to have Hilda join us but she seems to be mad at me still” Leaning on him Carmen said pitifully.
Hilda looked at them, rolled her eyes and thought. “What’s with this couple? What do they want from me? Hah..”
“Hilda since Carmen thought about you and made enough food for us all why not join us?” Daniel spoke up. “We are a family after all.”
“I’m okay.” With that Hilda turned around and continued with her work.
