Her hands flailed in the air, grabbing onto something unknown. Without time to think, she yanked it hard, using the force to cushion her fall. Thankfully, when she hit the ground, it wasn’t as painful as she expected.

Caroline glanced at the object in her hand.
Wait… Was this… A towel? No, a bath towel? Where did it come from?
Caroline stiffly raised her eyes and froze for a few seconds as the scene before her registered.
David’s voice was cold. “Have you seen enough?”
“Ahhh!”

This was bad since she would be flustered from that.
David’s expression darkened with irritation. “Shut up!”
Outside the door, Paul approached and knocked. “Sir, is something wrong? Do you need security…”
Before he could finish, David barked, “Get lost!”
“Yes… Yes, sir.”
What exactly was going on in that room? Could it be…
Paul’s face lit up with a knowing smile.
Meanwhile, David yanked the bath towel back and wrapped it around himself again. “Your attempts at seduction are pathetic. Try something new.”
Of course, Caroline had been quick to agree to the divorce. But now it was clear–it was all a ruse. She was still trying to climb into his bed and act like his wife.
Did she think he was the kind of man who couldn’t control himself?
Ridiculous.
Caroline bit her lip. This man is beyond narcissistic.
“I wasn’t trying anything. You’re the one who suddenly…
“Didn’t you just take a good, long look?” David interrupted.
Caroline’s face flushed red in an instant. She’d only been stunned into inaction. Could he not see that?

If the truth about that night ever came to light, David wouldn’t spare her. Worse, it would ruin her reputation entirely. Even though she’d been a victim, it would destroy her life.
Caroline nodded. “Thank you for your mercy.”
“But…” David’s tone shifted as he narrowed his eyes at her, scrutinizing her expression. “When you first married into the family, didn’t my grandfather arrange for a team of specialists from abroad to help you conceive?”
If he hadn’t brought it up, Caroline might’ve forgotten about that entirely.
Richard had hoped she could conceive through medical intervention and had spent a fortune hiring experts to assess her chances.
But once David woke up, the plan had been shelved indefinitely.
David grabbed her chin firmly, his grip harsh. “When I ask a question, answer it. Don’t play dumb.”
The pain made her frown, his strength was no joke.
“Yes,” Caroline admitted. “Mr. Richard wanted me to have a child for you and did everything he could to make it happen. But the night after you woke up, I only went to the hospital once. After that, nothing else happened.”
David’s voice dropped. “So, you didn’t conceive?”
“Do you
think it’s that easy to get pregnant? Do you think your… Seed is of such high quality?” she retorted.
David’s lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze as sharp as a blade.
Caroline, emboldened, didn’t hold back. “Besides, why would I have a child for you? We’re getting divorced. What’s the point of bringing a child into this mess? To grow up in a single–parent household? I’m an orphan, and I don’t want my child to go through what I did. Your mother wasn’t around for you growing up either. Do you really want your child to experience the same thing?”
David stared at her intently, his grip tightening, but Caroline stood her ground, refusing to cry out in pain.
Finally, he released her. “You’d better stick to your word. Don’t talk one way and act another. Don’t you
