Meanwhile, behind Caroline, there was no one. She didn’t even have the right to fight back.
Elizabeth became even more smug. “Weren’t you acting all tough? Didn’t you tell me to get lost? Caroline, who do you think you are? Do you really think you’re Mrs. Ellison? With Mr. Ellison here, I can do whatever I want to you, and you just have to take it!”
“Still want to go against me? Ha! Know your place. Do you even realize where you stand in Mr. Ellison’s heart compared to me?”
Elizabeth wore the look of someone arrogantly bullying others by relying on a powerful backer.
She walked up to Caroline, rolled up her sleeves, and smiled maliciously.
She yanked Caroline’s hair, slapped her hard across the face, and pinched her ruthlessly, leaving Caroline’s body covered in bruises.
Caroline was held down by the security guards, unable to move.
The only thing she could do… was bend over as much as possible, shielding her stomach to protect it from
harm.
Of course, Elizabeth noticed what she was doing and deliberately aimed her attacks at Caroline’s lower abdomen.
Caroline curled up tightly, desperately trying to protect herself.
“You!” Elizabeth ordered the guards, “Pull her up and make her stand straight.”
So, Caroline wanted to protect her child? Elizabeth was determined to target it!
No way she’d let her off easily!
As the guards were about to act, Caroline quickly spoke up, “Didn’t David order me to beg for mercy? Didn’t he say my knees couldn’t leave the ground? How can I just stand up?”
If she stood up, her stomach would be fully exposed to Elizabeth, putting the baby in danger!
“Yes,” one of the guards confirmed, “Mr. Ellison did give that order.”
“Then I can’t get up. I’ll stay here and beg for mercy.”
Elizabeth was annoyed. “If I say you can stand, then you can! Just do as I say. Hurry up and make her stand straight! Did you hear me?”
But the two guards didn’t move.
They only obeyed David!
Elizabeth stomped her foot in frustration but couldn’t do anything about it. She could only sneer, “Caroline, you’ve got guts!”

Before leaving, Elizabeth kicked Caroline’s shoulder twice, only then feeling content as she walked away.
The security guards also left quietly.
At the entrance, only Caroline remained, still kneeling and begging for mercy.
Her hands pressed against the ground, her entire body aching so much that she couldn’t even tell… which part hurt the most.
Maybe it was her heart that hurt the most.
Elizabeth had bullied her since they were young. She was used to it by now. If Elizabeth ever treated her kindly, that would be truly strange.
They had long been enemies. Caroline was never afraid to offend her and always fought back head–on.
But no matter how fiercely Caroline resisted Elizabeth, no matter how hard she defended herself, she couldn’t win against David’s forceful support of Elizabeth.
She wanted to fight Elizabeth to the bitter end, but the moment David appeared, she was utterly defeated, with no chance of victory.
Caroline hated Elizabeth.
But she hated David even more!
If it were just Elizabeth targeting her, she could protect herself and uphold her dignity. But with David involved, she was doomed.
Caroline didn’t need a mirror to know how wretched she looked now.
She wiped the corner of her mouth, only to see a smear of bright red on the back of her hand.
Her entire body felt like it had been crushed–everything hurt.
