She lay there on the ground, completely still, as if…
Dead.

“Caroline.”
No response.
David raised his voice and called again, “Caroline!”
Still, there was no reaction.
David’s voice echoed through the Ellison residence, lingering in the air before slowly fading away.
“Stop pretending to be dead. That trick won’t work on me,” David said coldly. “Get up!”
“I’ll count to three. If you don’t get up, you’ll be begging for mercy again tomorrow night!”
“Three, two, one!”
Yet no matter how David threatened her, Caroline remained motionless, her hand still resting on her lower
abdomen.
David’s brows furrowed tightly. He finally stepped forward and grabbed her shoulder, forcefully turning her
over.
Her eyes were shut, her lips pale as paper, her cheeks severely swollen, and fresh blood was still trickling from the corner of her mouth.
Completely lifeless. Utterly still.
Caroline had passed out.
David stared at her, his first instinct telling him to walk away, not to soften even a little for this woman.
But it was as if his feet were nailed to the ground. He couldn’t move.
His mind told him to leave, but his body refused.
“Mr. Ellison, Madam… her injuries are quite severe,” Paul cautiously spoke up. “It’s best to treat her wounds. If something happens to her, it’ll be a big problem.”
David’s face darkened.
“Second Miss Liang might look gentle, but when she attacked Madam, she was ruthless. Her blows were harsh. Even I thought it was too much. Madam couldn’t possibly withstand that.”
“Shut up!”
David snapped, suddenly releasing Caroline, letting her collapse back to the ground. He turned and started walking toward the villa.
But after a few steps, he abruptly turned back.

Before Paul could figure out what was happening, David had already bent down and lifted Caroline into his
arms.
“Call the family doctor!”
“Y–Yes, Mr. Ellison!”
David carried Caroline swiftly upstairs. When he reached the master bedroom door, he hesitated for a few seconds.
Then, he turned and went into the guest room across the hall.
Caroline remained completely motionless, her eyes tightly shut.
He placed her on the bed, his fingertip brushing over the wounds on her face.
“…Caroline, you can’t just die like this.”
“If you die, who will I torment, hmm?”
“Watching you suffer is my greatest pleasure!”
Once the family doctor rushed in, David left without looking back.
When Caroline awoke, it was already midday.
Her entire body ached, her mouth was dry, and her knees… felt like they had been shattered.
“W–water… water…”
The servant, seeing her awake, exclaimed in surprise, “Madam, you’re awake!”
Caroline’s vision was blurry, and memories of last night slowly flooded back into her mind.
Warm water trickled into her mouth, and only then did she feel slightly better.
“Where… is this…” Caroline mumbled, her voice weak. “My… my baby…”
Her trembling hand instinctively moved to her lower abdomen, gently stroking it.
Closing her eyes and resting for a moment, Caroline gradually regained a bit of strength and slowly pushed herself up from the bed.
She glanced down at her arms.
They were covered in red scratch marks–remnants of Elizabeth’s vicious attacks.
Not to mention the kicks and stomps Elizabeth delivered. They still ached terribly.
Thankfully, none of the kicks had landed on her stomach. Otherwise, the baby would’ve been in danger.
The servant brought over some food. “Madam, please eat something.”
“He’s actually kind enough to let me eat?”
