“Mom, I really did my best, but Mr. Ellison just won’t- Elizabeth stomped her foot, frustration clear in her voice.
Matthew waved her off. “Enough. This isn’t the time for that. Caroline’s child must not be born. Whether she can conceive another of Mr. Ellison’s children in the future is uncertain. But right now, she’s carrying his baby–that’s a fact. We have to act now.”
Even if Mr. Ellison allowed it, conceiving again would be an immediate process after a loss. Who could guarantee there wouldn’t be complications or unexpected changes in the meantime?
They’d deal with the future when it arrived.
For now, the Brooks family couldn’t afford to sit back just because Mr. Ellison was open to the idea of Caroline having another child. The one she was carrying now was still a threat.
Even Samantha’s confidence wavered. “What else can we do? We’ve kidnapped her, threatened her, and tried force, and now Mr. Ellison knows everything. Yet the child remains unharmed, and to make things worse, he seems to be growing even more attached to her!”
Every attempt had failed.
“Exactly,” Elizabeth sighed, sinking into the couch. “We’ve already tried everything. And if we push any further and Mr. Ellison finds out… we’re finished.”
Matthew paced, deep in thought.
Then, a plan formed in his mind.
“There’s a way to get what we want without getting our hands dirty,” he said. “We don’t have to do anything ourselves–someone else will handle it for us.”
Samantha and Elizabeth looked at him expectantly. “Who?”
Julia.
Everyone already assumed the child was Nash’s.
That made Julia the most likely person to want it gone and the one who would stop at nothing to make it happen.
Samantha’s eyes brightened with realization. “Of course! I can’t believe I didn’t think of her sooner. I even mentioned her before!”
“Then it’s decided.”
Matthew and Samantha huddled together, exchanging whispers as they fine–tuned their strategy.
Moments later, Matthew gave a firm nod before heading upstairs to his study.
“Mom,” Elizabeth asked, “what exactly did you and Dad decide?”
“Don’t worry about it. We’ll handle everything.” Samantha reassured her. “If things go south, you won’t be

Caroline’s biggest disadvantage was that she was only an adopted daughter, without true family ties. That was just her fate.
“Elizabeth, your main priority is getting close to Mr. Ellison,” Samantha reminded her. “Caroline got pregnant after just one night. Who’s to say you won’t? And unlike her, you’ll have more than one chance.”
“I already told you, Mr. Ellison-
Samantha leaned in, her voice low and conspiratorial. ll get you something. Slip it into his drink or food when the time is right. Once it takes effect, the rest will unfold naturally.”
Elizabeth’s eyes gleamed with excitement. She nodded eagerly. “Yes! Yes, okay!”
Her confidence surged.
Still, the thought of Mr. Ellison allowing Caroline to have another child nagged at her.
“Mom… do you think he’s starting to care for her?”
“A man’s feelings are fleeting–they can vanish in an instant,” Samantha said dismissively. “Besides, Mr. Ellison could never truly love Caroline. No man would fall for a woman who still clings to another man’s child.
Elizabeth let out a soft “Oh.”
The Ellison residence, master bedroom.
Caroline sat at the edge of the bed, watching David’s silhouette on the balcony.
He stood there, already on his second cigarette.
