After navigating through the winding forest, they finally emerged onto the roadside, where a sleek black business van was parked.
Caroline glanced back.
Having lived at the Ellison residence for so long, she never noticed this hidden path. Yet, Julia seemed to know it effortlessly.
A sense of unease stirred inside her.
“Get in,” Julia urged impatiently. “Why are you just standing there? You don’t seem to be in a hurry at all.”
Caroline narrowed her eyes. “How did you find this place? And how did you happen to have a collapsible ladder ready to help me escape the Ellison residence?”
The timing seemed too perfect.
Earlier, she had been too focused on escaping to think about it. But now, the more she thought, the more -things didn’t add up.
“I…” Julia faltered, unable to come up with an excuse. Irritated, she snapped, “Are you getting in or not?”
The van sat there silently, looking empty from the outside.
Just as Caroline was about to peer inside, she heard voices from the distance.
“Why is there a ladder here? Who put it there?”
“There are footprints, too. Someone has been here!”
“Search the area now!”
D*mn it!
The security had reacted faster than she expected.
Julia shoved Caroline into the van. “If you don’t want to be dragged back, get in now!”
Panic surged through Caroline as she didn’t have time to think. Without a second thought, she opened the door and climbed inside.
The moment she did, her heart sank.
Inside the van were two tall, muscular bodyguards.
Before she could even react, the van sped off, racing down the road.
Strong hands grabbed her, forcing her back into the seat. They quickly tied her hands and feet with rope.
Julia, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced at her through the rearview mirror, a victorious smile on her

“Oh, Caroline,” she said smugly. “This time, you’re finally in my hands.”
“You set me up?” Caroline gritted her teeth.

“I helped you,” Julia corrected. “Look, didn’t you manage to escape the Ellison residence just like you wanted?”
Caroline clenched her jaw. “What are you planning to do with me?”
It was her own fault. She had sensed something was wrong but still walked right into Julia’s trap.
But there was no use regretting it now.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” Julia leaned back in her seat. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you see Nash. But first, we need to go somewhere else.”
Caroline struggled, but the bodyguards held her down firmly.
She couldn’t move an inch.
“You’re insane. How dare you kidnap me!” she spat. “The security already noticed the ladder. They’ll realize I’m missing soon… No matter what, I’m still Mrs. Ellison. What you are doing now is going against David!”
Julia’s laugh was soft but chilling. “You’re wrong. Once Mr. Ellison finds out what I have in store for you, he won’t be angry. He’ll probably commend me.”
“Julia, you…”
“Enough!” Julia waved her hand dismissively. “Gag her.”
“Yes, Ms. Julia,” one of the bodyguards responded.
A cloth was shoved into Caroline’s mouth, stifling her protests.
She had always thought of Julia as delicate, fragile, and even a little weak.
But now, she was seeing a ruthlessness she hadn’t expected.
The van sped down the road, carrying Caroline toward an uncertain fate.
Meanwhile, at Newton Group…
