Caroline bit her lip, fighting the overwhelming emotion. “Julia, you’re completely insane!”
Julia raised her hand and slapped Caroline across the face. “Silence!”
Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps drew closer, stopping at the door to the operating room.
“This is it! It’s here!” Nash’s voice echoed. “Open the door! Julia, I know you’re inside! Open up!”
The relentless pounding on the door shook the entire room.
Nash stood at the door, banging it with all his strength, even attempting to kick it open.
But it was useless.
Frantic, he shouted, “Julia! Do you hear me? Let Caroline go! Don’t make another mistake!”
Julia pretended she hadn’t heard a word.
“Nash! Nash!” Caroline’s voice cracked as she screamed, “I’m in here! Save me!”
Upon hearing her, Nash’s pounding grew more desperate.
He took a step back and charged at the door with his body, but it still didn’t budge.
The door was locked tight, and two bodyguards stood in his way. Alone, Nash couldn’t break through.
After several failed attempts, he stepped back, exhausted and helpless.
David stood nearby, his hand casually tucked into his pocket, observing with a detached, almost cold demeanor.

David remained still, unfazed.
“Your wife is the one in danger!” Nash yelled, his voice rising. “Are you really this heartless and indifferent?”
David responded calmly, “My wife won’t be harmed. But your child is about to leave this world. You’re not saving Caroline, Nash. You’re just trying to protect your child.”
“You!” Nash sputtered, his voice shaking with disbelief. “How can you still focus on things like this right now? Saving a life is what matters!”
David pressed his lips together and looked toward the operating room without a word.
Nash sneered. “Fine, if you won’t help, I’ll do it myself. Get out of the way!”
With only one door separating them, and the poor soundproofing of the old building, every word exchanged between David and Nash was clearly audible inside.
Julia spoke, her voice laced with bitterness. “Did you hear that, Caroline? They both came. Unfortunately, neither of them came to save you. Mr. Ellison stands by doing nothing, and Nash is only concerned about his child.”
Caroline shut her eyes, tears flowing freely.
She had heard every word.
Each sentence felt like a wound, slicing deeper into her heart.
